Bynoe’s Gecko (Heteronotia binoei)

These desert dwelling micros can be found scurrying around the deserts of Australia. They love climbing over and under rocks and digging in the sand. That’s why it’s super important to make sure that everything in their enclosures are secure and placed right on the bottom, as opposed to just sitting on top of the substrate, to prevent the risk of anything falling on top of them in case they dig a tunnel under them. This is a good thing to keep in mind with any pet, such as hamsters and dogs too!

Similar to Mournings, these geckos are also a mostly female species that reproduces through parthenogenesis. This little lady is almost fully grown, where she’ll be about 11-12 cm/4.3-4.7 inches long (including tail), and would have hatched from a spherical, tic-tac sized egg.

Neon Day Gecko (Phelsuma klemmeri)

I’ve grown quite fond of micro geckos the past couple of years, which is no surprise seeing how fascinating they can be. Right from the moment they hatch, Neon Day Geckos are beautifully vibrant and ready to face the world. In the wild, these geckos can be found in a small region along the coast of northwestern Madagascar. That is, if you can find them. Fully grown, they only measure about 8.3-9.5cm (including tail), and they LOVE hiding in bamboo and amongst the foliage.

Over the past few months, it’s felt as if I was being teased by a various birds of prey. I would only seem to spot them while driving to school, work, or a friends place, or whenever I didn’t have a camera on me.

A delightful annoyance, as seeing cool animals always brightens my day, but frustrating as all hell that I can’t drop everything and try to get a decent shot.

It wasn’t until this Cooper’s Hawk (Acciptiter cooperii) landed in my yard that I was finally able to capture the moment, and break the streak.
