The film festival is an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their works, be inspired, be imaginative, and create an international community of filmmakers. The Future of Filmmaking is in Surrey. The International Surrey Film Festival is an organization founded by Glen Chua and Tim Reyes, former student filmmakers who have realized the importance of student film festivals. The Film Festival also collaborates with the Youth Arts Council of Surrey who ensure the involvement of youth within the city. On the red carpet at the ceremony, filmmakers will be flocked by "paparazzi" and fans before entering the theatre. Inside, the top films will be screened and students can win thousands of dollars worth in prizes including cash, and gift certificates. The Best of Surrey trophy will also be awarded to the top Surrey High School Film, and the names of the filmmakers and school will be engraved for eternity on the trophy. Tamanawis Secondary won this award in 2007, Kwantlen Park followed in 2008, Fleetwood Park Secondary in 2009, Earl Marriott in 2010 and 2011, and M.J. Mouat Secondary in 2012.

“This film festival was created to help inspire students who have a passion for storytelling and film production. It really is a celebration of the students work, and it’s like Oscar night for Surrey! We want to get films from around the world and showcase them here in Surrey so that we can create a community for both students and professionals.” says Glen Chua, the festival director. Submission forms and entry guidelines can all be found on the official film festival website at www.surreyfilmfest.ca. Previous festival films can also be found there.
