The Bethany, originally a country church known as the Bethany Lutheran Church, is an amazing 1928 historic prairie church that has been restored and transformed into a fabulous locale for events of all sizes.
This wood frame building has a story of its own. In 1927, a rural grocery fell apart during its four mile move to the settlement of Bethany; the locals utilized the wood from the fallen building to build a church. After a thirty year life in the country, the congregation moved the church 8km into Hazlet. In 1992, the last church service was held and the building stood empty until 2017.
Upon its closure, many members of the community voluntarily looked after the building until 25 years later it need full-time love. Lindsay Alliban and Erin McKnight were able to provide that love. They officially purchased the building in July 2017 and spent the summer and fall painting walls and putting on a steel roof. The first show was held in February 2018.
In May of 2021, Sara McEacheran became a co-owner of The Bethany. Currently, they are in the process of rebuilding the once existing kitchen and bathroom. With Sara’s famous cooking moving in house, The Bethany is excited to expand into catering.
Lindsay, Erin, and Sara are excited to continue to care for and restore this building to house the laughter and love it was once home to!

If planning and big weddings aren't your thing, Grasslands Events has something for you!

Have you been thinking about eloping?

Want an intimate ceremony before your big reception?

Looking for an upgrade to city hall?

We've got you babe!

Weddings are a lot of work, so we're bringing Pop Up Weddings to Swift Current!!

Here's how it works...we set up an exclusive ceremony experience and open it to up to 8 couples for the day.

You can invite up to 20 guests, or just keep it the two of you!

You get a ceremony, cocktail hour, and portrait session provided by our incredible team of top notch wedding professionals and managed by me.

You just show up with your marriage license and the rest is taken care of!

My favourite part is that we are donating a session to a local couple who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a wedding! So your wedding is making it possible for someone else to have one too.

Our first ever session is scheduled for August 27, 2022 at the West Wing Gallery. Usually it's not even available for rent...that's what we mean by exclusive! The gallery will even be holding their local artist exhibit a few extra days, just so for us.

Find everything you need to know and book your wedding online at www.grasslandsevents.ca/pop-up-weddings

Fun Fact Friday:
Long ago it was thought that a vein ran from the heart directly down to the fourth finger, making it the perfect place for a symbol of unbreakable bond and infinity - two things commonly attributed to wedding rings.

Have a sticky wedding planning situation? Send us a message! We're happy to answer etiquette and planning questions - anonymously of course - here in our social media and in the magazine. We want to get them out in front of couples who may not know how to ask themselves, but can benefit from the conversation it opens up online.

Fun Fact Friday:
According to English lore, Saturday is the unluckiest day to get married. Although it's hard to believe since it's the most popular day of the week now, it once was considered most unlucky!

Weddings are full of traditions pulled together from many backgrounds and cultures. They range from simple superstition to religious observance, with most falling somewhere in between.

What is your favourite wedding tradition from around the world? One of mine is from Ireland where Celtic knots and symbols are often incorporated into rings, stationary, or dress. Celtic knots have no end or beginning and I think they're the perfect way to represent love and the bringing together of families.

What questions have you been putting off?

When you have other people (parents) contributing to your wedding, you need to know how much and what the conditions are before you start planning. Believe me, it's better to be uncomfortable now, than in debt later.

How did you set your wedding day budget? Did you go by how much you had in savings? Did you have a plan for working to cover the cost while planning? Did you meet with a wedding planner to advise you?

In the end, how did it affect your plans for the day? Was your final plan much different from what you both wanted? Setting a budget is one of the toughest decisions to make when planning a wedding, but it's one of the best places to start!

Weddings are truly about collaboration. Between the couple planning their ceremony and reception, the families coming together, and the vendors who are hired make the day special. The fall issue of Details highlights the importance of having your vendors collaborate for a seamless end result and how to achieve that.

Happy reading!

***UPDATE***
Hey everyone! Candace here from Bumble & Vine Photography, hijacking this post :) I am one of the brains behind Details wedding magazine, but I was away today and didn't see this photo in our files before it was published. Instead of deleting and replacing it, I decided to highlight the benefits of talking to your LOCAL vendors and experts by offering a little insight into the industry here in the southwest.

As a wedding photographer based in southern Saskatchewan I would love to make a change to that sample list shown in this photo. In our region, after setting your budget and sharing the news with everyone, your first official booking call in the 12+ Month Before category should be to a wedding planner if you plan to use one. They will have connections to the vendors you will be dealing with every step of the way and they've been building relationships with those experts through the years.

Your next calls should be to your venues and your photographer of choice. My wedding photography schedule fills up at least a year in advance, often earlier (we are fully booked for July 2022 as of right now with the rest of the summer filling up fast) and they're two of the biggest decisions/budget allocations you will make in the planning process. Your ceremony and reception venues set the tone for your celebration, and they will be the backdrop to all of those high resolution photos you'll be smiling at for the rest of your lives together!

Anyway, now that I've interrupted your scrolling I'll let you get back to the original post below...

The list of things to do to get ready for your wedding is extensive. In our upcoming issue, we guide you through the to-do's of the last month before!
