August 30th Timelapse of Incoming Storm Clouds / Clearing out the smoke #skstorm
Smoke briefly cleared out for a quick storm cloud view, however strong thunderstorms were hidden behind the smoke shield for the most part as I filmed from Wascana Lake (Regina, Saskatchewan) yesterday. Radar indicated storms just west of the city (Pense) but they kept rolling by northbound and wildfire smoke wrapped it up for me. September 9th continues to show potential. It not over yet!
June 6th, 2023 Timelapse of Popcorn Type Thunderstorm Clouds
Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for western Saskatchewan including Saskatoon and North Battleford as of 4:30pm SST. Small, slow moving supercellular thunderstorms have popped up and will continue to grow over the next 3 days with the main cold front passing through southeastern Saskatchewan on Wednesday evening. Tornado risk is very low to zero today, with a slightly higher risk on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Check local forecast and WeatherCAN app for alerts.

Mostly #skstorm with a bit of #abstorm potential as well ..

May 16th Sunset Timelapse at Wascana Lake
As the smoke clears out of southern areas of Saskatchewan with a shift to storm relative southeast winds, a new system begins its approach. Convective action (weak) is expected to appear this afternoon and evening across southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. Latest forecast model runs are pushing initiation later in the day which is pushing things further east and later. Saturday morning, thunderstorms with a weak tornado risk will cross through southeast Saskatchewan from 6am to 10am and eventually run out of steam towards North Dakota.
Looking forward to Monday, a much stronger effort looks likely to affect southeast Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba with the supercell index showing widespread coverage. All of this hinges upon the coverage of forest fire smoke. Hopefully the coming waves of precipitation will knock down the fires and allow for regeneration of the environment.
The @StormRangerBike will NOT be chasing Saturday morning, looking forward to better opportunities on Monday afternoon and evening.
Stay safe, water your gardens, sweep the salt dust away, remove dry and dead branches, enjoy the weather and keep comments intelligent and helpful. Thanks!

Temperature Fluctuation Timelapse Kestrel + Clouds
The ice is now all gone from the lake as of April 30th, this footage is from April 27th, 2023 as the clouds broke open a few times to make it feel like +25C on the north side of Wascana dropping to 18C in just a few minutes. Shooting for about 45 minutes, the mount for the Motorola was loose so the Kestrel video is pretty messed up but with relevant footage. Not exactly the same time in the merged videos, however it is good practice and I hope to improve on this style of capturing the weather.

March 3rd, 2023 Spring Update
March 3rd, 2023
Spring Update
Spoiler Alert: The computer forecast says is going to stay cold into the middle of March. Considering how the forecast is consistently missing targets, many unconsidered elements could result in the forecast going wrong in our favor and we should embrace that, and study how it can be applied to new and improved forecasting methods. The rabbits are rarely wrong. 😅
The weather has deteriorated significantly here in Regina as the snow finally started to stick overnight, things got wild on Sunday morning. A high rise carriage was out of control on Broad Street and as it was swinging in the wind we caught a big snownado or snow tornado in the Double Tree parking lot. Wind warning is still in effect. visibility is down to zero with big gusts and non-stop snow. Full video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D_1t8r8-oA
Incoming shelf cloud as seen from the north side of wascana lake 733pm update
Hoping to catch a rainbow and some spectacular skies lakeside near the Legislative Building on August 22nd. I was surprised when light rain drops intensified up to near zero visibility and a torrential downpour. Very cold air and gushing rain forced me to move towards shelter but by the time I got to the Legislature, the rain had slowed to a sudden stop. Another quick ride over to the west side of Wascana Lake produced this stunning scene of storm clouds forming into a wall cloud, rope and brief funnel. Rotation looked very weak as wind shear was at a bare minimum on this day.
Filmed with both the Sony Action Camera and the Moto G8 Power

Filming this thunderstorm as it creeps towards Regina. Expecting it to flatten out and land in the area for big storms on Saturday evening. Should be a fantastic sunset out here! If anything we will go live here on Facebook as it rolls in, however models say no precipitation for Regina. Have a good night and stay safe!
May 8th Timelapse with Storm Clips
We have been filming and posting on YouTube, daily timelapse videos of the volatile atmosphere above the city of Regina. In this video we have added both timelapse from noon in the marsh to downtown in the rail yards after 4pm plus a couple of video clips of how the clouds looked through the Canon yesterday on May the 8th.
Tight spiral funnel clouds were spotted both on Saturday and Sunday, May 7th and 8th. One over Last Mountain Lake on Sunday and another over Indian Head on Saturday. Expecting this to be the new norm for at least the first part of spring as historic flooding in the east (Manitoba) mixing with drought in the west (Alberta) causes a great deal of mixing in between (southeast Saskatchewan especially). These first few storms are still quite weak but will gain strength as the sunshine gets hotter.
We will be following radar again closely tomorrow, forecast models have been very extremely variable and difficult to match to actual weather happening. Its spring! 😄🌧🌤🌧☀️⛈
Live Blizzard Downtown Regina, Saskatchewan
Winds are gusting over 90km/hr, visibility is near zero at times. Stay safe!
October 4 Calm
It is especially calm today beside Wascana Lake and looks like summer type temperatures will continue for a couple more days. Following this final heat wave, long term forecast models are indicating summer will be coming to a screeching halt by next week. Much needed moisture to put out some major fires that now have Saskatoon and areas of central Saskatchewan under air quality advisories. In fact, Clavet, Saskatchewan is reporting Level 458 - Hazardous which just beat Mumbia (446) for first place overall as the worst air on Earth. Congratulations?

Still waiting for a thunderstorm in Regina, here is what the clouds were doing yesterday evening. Very spooky and smoky cloud formations. Thought I was filming nothing but overcast skies until I wasn't. Glad I kept filming despite the 80% humidity, not a drop of rain from this. You can watch the 4K version on YouTube. Storm Round Two
Starting to come into view. New cool north winds and shelf clouds incoming! #skstorm Regina north west corner in a wheat field
Watching this stationary supercell about to merge with incoming severe thunderstorms to my west. Very hot now but expecting to get very wet lol currently on the very far north west corner of Regina in a wheat field.
Tornado warned supercell timelapse
Now filming this tornado warned storm for Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. This is the view from Wascana Lake in Regina at 7:30pm
Post your footage in the comments, if you see a tornado please report it to ECCC links on the blog http://canadianprairiestorms.blogspot.com/p/weather-data-links.html?m=1
Tornado warning in effect for:
R.M. of Caron including Caronport and Caron
R.M. of Eyebrow including Eyebrow and Brownlee
R.M. of Marquis including Tuxford Keeler and Buffalo Pound
At 7:31 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.
This thunderstorm is 13 km southwest of Keeler, SK and is traveling southeast at 20 km/h.
The skies were coming alive today in Regina as winds finally began to shift southeast. Actually caught a few rain drops but only enough to soften the baked nature trail. Expecting severe thunderstorms to cross southern Saskatchewan, increasing in strength Wednesday to Thursday. Will post updates as they happen..

5pm Storm Update
Quick timelapse of the developing thunderstorms, filming facing southwest at the edge of the city of Regina across the highway from Dutch Growers 455pm
Time-lapse of the convective activity leading up to the brief thunderstorm that hit Regina today. I shot this around Wascana Lake between 3pm and 5pm. We got some rain and a lot of wind, sideways rain for a couple minutes as I got home safe and sound. A few lightning strikes were spotted but overall a fairly weak storm that had some spinning potential due to the spring mixing of cold dry and warm humid air. Very little accumulation of rain from what I can see, sidewalks are already dry!
I'll post the full video in 4K on YouTube later...
thanks,
Jared Mysko
