It's been ten years to the day since I posted the first episode of HI101, and I can't believe it's still going! We've done something a little bit different to celebrate: four guest hosts join me for four different topics. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did! Listen here:

Episode time, and this time it's part one of a two-parter! It's been two years since we had to split a topic, and the last time was on fascism - which should give you an idea of just how much material there is to cover. We're talking the English Revolution - listen here:

Our latest episode is up now! We're talking about the Klondike gold rush, what life was like in the Yukon at the turn of the 20th century, and the unique circumstances that led more than 100,000 people to go north in less than four years. Listen here:

Our latest episode is on the Naval arms race between Germany and Britain prior to the First World War, but we spend most of our time on all the nautical innovations over the course of the 19th century that led to the race. This is a topic I love very much, and I hope you enjoy it just as much! Listen here:

I'm back! I've missed you all, and I've missed making the show a whole lot, so you can imagine how excited I am to finally be posting an episode again.

This time we're talking Kingdom of Hawaii from pre-history to annexation, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording again. Listen here:

Hi! It's been awhile since I posted, I know. Sorry about that. Unfortunately, it still might be a bit longer.

About two months ago I hurt my back in a way that resulted in some nerve pain in my leg and foot, and it turns out that a) it takes a very long time to heal that sort of injury, and b) it's really difficult to work on anything but getting better, especially for the first while. It's remarkable just how much this type of pain can sideline you! 90% of what I've tried to work on in these past two months has not been up to my standard.

I've gotten a lot better and there's no reason to think I won't be back to 100% at some point relatively soon, but I'm definitely behind. And as much as it bothers me that I'm behind, it would bother me more to put out a badly made episode to scratch that itch. So for now I'm going to stick to healing up, and I'll post again as soon as I can. I miss it a lot! So if you don't see me for a little bit, this is why.

Thanks for your understanding, and for sticking with the show. I really couldn't ask for a lovelier audience.

Hey all, February's episode is going to be late - just life stuff interfering as it sometimes does. The tentative plan is to release two in March to get back on track, but I don't know exactly when yet. Sorry for the inconsistency lately!

This month we're talking about the history of recorded audio, which as a podcaster I can assure you I was extremely excited to dig into. Listen here!

In this episode we're talking about historical myths and why they stick, including Napoleon's height, corsets, lifespans, and more! Listen here:

This month we're talking about the Kingdom of Mysore, which resisted British expansion into India in the late 18th century and deserves more recognition as a story than I've seen it get here. You can listen here:

This month we're talking about the Sengoku period - a stretch of 150 years in which Japan was at constant civil war. Check it out here: http://www.hi101.ca/?p=705

August's episode is up now, and we're talking about early aviation! You won't believe how many people thought the secret to flight was strapping some feathers to their arms, but it was a leading theory for a *very* long time. Listen now!

This month I've decided to release an old episode on the Red River Rebellions in response to the ongoing discoveries of unmarked graves on the grounds of former residential schools in Canada. These episodes contain significant context for the relationship Canada had and continues to have with Indigenous peoples that led to these atrocities.

Hey everyone, newest episode is up now! Apologies for the delay and thanks for the patience - I bruised my ribs a few weeks ago and it turns out that takes a really long time to heal! This one was a lot of fun to record, so I hope you enjoy.
