In the gentle embrace of spring's sweet bloom,
My soul awakens from winter's gloom.
As flowers burst forth with vibrant hues,
So too does my creativity refuse to snooze.

With each petal unfurling in the sun's warm kiss,
My imagination dances, finding bliss.
In fields of dreams where ideas roam free,
I wander, inspired, under spring's canopy.

The chirping birds and babbling brooks,
Compose a symphony in nature's nooks.
Their melodies weave through the air,
Stirring my muse from its slumbering lair.

Oh, how the colours of spring ignite,
A fire within, burning bright.
In this season of renewal and rebirth,
I find solace and joy upon this earth.

So let the blossoms bloom and the rivers flow,
For in their beauty, my spirit does grow.
As spring arrives, I too unfurl,
Imagination and creativity, are my eternal pearl.

"In the heart of Toronto, the annual Caribbean Carnival unfolds as a dazzling celebration of culture and creativity. At the forefront are the MAS, intricate costumes designed by visionaries like Maya. Blurring the lines between art and craft, Maya's creations embody tradition and innovation, reflecting the personas of participants. As the parade weaves through the city, the MAS become a canvas of vibrant colors and found materials, sparking a debate on whether they are art or craft. In Toronto's Caribbean Community, the answer is a harmonious celebration of both, as the MAS tell stories that transcend labels and speak to a united community."

Within Canada, the Black and Caribbean community has a significant opportunity to build sustainable economic strength through this community-driven approach. Prioritizing local entrepreneurship, skills development, and cultural preservation becomes pivotal in this endeavour. Community-led initiatives, such as education programs and mentorship opportunities, empower individuals to meaningfully contribute to various sectors. By fostering economic self-sufficiency and embracing cultural identity, the community creates a distinctive and valuable presence in the broader Canadian economy. Collaborative efforts in technology, arts, and sustainable industries further enhance the potential for economic resilience and growth while avoiding the perpetuation of colonial structures.

The Building Black Entrepreneurs Program offers business training and coaching tailored for individuals within the Black and Caribbean Diaspora in Canada.

Happy Diwali (November 12) its not too early to celebrate.
In the heart of night, a festival's glow,
Diwali's light, a radiant, dazzling show.
Candles flicker, and lamps aglow,
As darkness recedes, our spirits grow.
A triumph of good o'er evil, they say,
In every home, joy finds its way.
With sweets and laughter, we celebrate,
Diwali's brilliance, we jubilate.

Before the European sails ever graced the Caribbean, the islands of the West Indies were nurtured by the Arawaks, also known as the Taíno. These early settlers were mainly found in the Greater Antilles and the Bahamas. Their communities, or cacicazgos, were led by caciques (chiefs). They built their bohíos near coasts and rivers, which not only provided a means of sustenance but also formed the backdrop for their spiritual lives, marked by the reverence for zemis or deities.
