It's a big honour to see Tadpoles: The Big Little Migration become a finalist in two categories at this years prestigious Jackson Wild Media Awards.

It's amazing to see us listed alongside David Attenborough, the BBC, AppleTV, and other production giants. The best thing is that this is just the tip of the iceberg - Maxwel Hohn and Russell Clark have lots more exciting projects in the works.

You can watch the short film here: https://youtu.be/5S-lZtE1J6M

Special thanks to the tadpoles - who were generally very professional, and delivered some fantastic performances!

In case you missed this and are looking for something unrelated to US politics to watch, Call Of The Coastal Wolves is an 8 minute minimentary I wrote and edited just before Christmas. Expertly captured by videographers Maxwel Hohn and Steve Woods Photography, these coastal wolves are a fascinating species dearly in need of respect and recognition.

There’s no story too small to tell, and these little cuties certainly deserve some attention! This was an enjoyable film to be a part of, with exceptional tadpole footage from Maxwel Hohn Photography and additional shots from Steve Woods Photography. Take a few minutes out of your day and follow the incredible journey of the western toad tadpole...

13/09/2020

This Tuesday at 7pm (PST) you can watch the new mini documentary Tadpoles: The Big Little Migration. An epic tale about these overlooked little cuties, from videographer Maxwel Hohn Photography.

Ambassadors Outdoors

Ever wonder what goes into creating those lovely images throughout the BARE, Hollis, Atomic Aquatics and Zeagle Systems, INC brands? Here's a behind the scenes look with the Huish Ambassadors on Vancouver Island!

A warp speed, rollercoaster of a dive yesterday afternoon was enormous fun, and somehow actually managed to produce a few pics showing the incredible colours that lay Beneath BC.

Thanks to Roger McDonell and Vaughan Raymond for top notch skippery, and to Krystal Janicki for breaking the underwater speed record.

The former HMSC Columbia is one of more under appreciated artificial reefs in British Columbia. Yesterday was not one of those days. Big Animal Encounters gave Russell Clark and Krystal Janicki the 366 foot long destroyer class reef to themselves. Spawning anemones decorated the water with er, 'stuff', a puget sound king crab chilled at the bottom of the mortar barrels, cabazon kept a watchful eye over us - and everything was really rather lovely!

You'll notice Krystal Janicki from a lot of our videos, she has just been appointed an Ambassador for Huish Outdoors, covering brands BARE, Atomic Aquatics, Hollis, and Zeagle Systems, INC. She's worked hard for years now, modelling for a ton of shooters, never complaining and always smiling. She's not just an ambassador for Huish, she's an ambassador for diving. Well done Krystal (oh, your next shoot is Wednesday)!

Shearwater Research

We produced Shearwater Research's Teric, NERD 2, Perdix, and Public Safety Diving videos, while ourselves utilizing their highly reliable computers. This latest video was a lot of fun to make, and it was great seeing the team's reactions to one of the most unique dives on the planet...

Each year large amounts of herring migrate towards the shores of British Columbia for spawning - one of natures most spectacular events. Steller sea lions flock here to feast, but before they do, they enjoy some time soaking in the sun, and checking out the Shearwater dive team!

There's no better way to learn about our coastline, test our computers (and straps!) and just have fun on the weekend. Would you like to dive with these gentle giants?

12/02/2020

This is the sad and unnecessary result of garbage carelessly being allowed to enter our oceans. It is a privilege to see these beautiful animals in our neighbourhood, but we desperately need to avoid this kind of tragedy. Anyone that has seen or photographed this guy at Norris Rocks recently, please notify Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre

Divescapes Scuba Conference 2020 has been announced! We're very luck to have such an incredible show organized by the Alberta Underwater Council, and we highly recommend that all divers and dive businesses from across Canada and the US to descend upon Edmonton in October. It's a fantastic weekend of speakers, social events and general awesomeness.

360 video of the most fascinating (and cutest) sights we’ve seen this year is the daily commute of thousands of tadpoles. In the morning these little ones make their way into the shallow water of a Vancouver Island lake, forming little highways, weaving in and out of the lily pads. A fun and unique reminder that it’s not just our oceans that hold rich, natural treasures. #360

Back to work after an insanely good week of diving with Ocean Quest Adventure Resort in Newfoundland - WWII wrecks, whale bones and icebergs! Great to see our video still playing on the awesome OceanWall at Hillside Mall in Victoria, BC. First of its kind in Canada, the 12x7 foot OceanWall allows viewers to explore beneath BC and engage in interactive educational activities. Thanks Laura Murch for spotting it and sending us the pic!

Ocean to glacier: Vancouver Island by helicopter

We normally spend our time beneath BC, so it was a fun treat to see Vancouver Island by air with 49 North Helicopters. From ocean to glacier; over Campbell River, Bute Inlet, and the Orford River - then lunch at 7000 feet! Thanks to our pilot Mack Zirkl, who we think has one of BC's coolest jobs!

Shearwater Research

Water Rescue teams have been using the Shearwater Research NERD 2 to improve efficiency and safety in their public safety diving operations. We produced this video showing how their evolution of technology is being utilized by the Fire Department. We use the NERD 2 recreationally - and love it, so it's fantastic to see it being used by teams like this, and potentially saving lives.

Learn how the NERD 2 is revolutionizing public safety diving. Divers from the Renton Fire Department Water Rescue Team have been using NERD 2 hands-free computer in emergency situations, making their job easier, more efficient and ultimately safer.

It's always an adventure exploring with passionate divers, especially when it's fun dives with Shearwater Research! An awesome group of people that love diving as much as you'd hope and expect. Thank you for inviting us to Tuwanek! Thank you Krystal Janicki for underwater BTS video.

We had a great time at Tuwanek this weekend diving with Shearwater Research! The visibility was stunning and the sun was shining for two fun dives at one of our favourite sites in BC.

A week tomorrow we'll be presenting at the excellent Divescapes Scuba Conference in Calgary! We're rather stoked to be a part of the fantastic line up - it's by far the best event in the Canadian dive calendar and worthy of everyone's support. See you there!

Telegraph Cove - Beneath BC

Telegraph Cove is a beautiful part of Vancouver Island, located at the northern end of Johnstone Strait. Diving through kelp, colours, and more basket stars than we've ever seen. Whale and dolphin sightings filled our surface intervals. Thank you Beaver Aquatics!

A couple of weeks ago we went for a fun dive with Maxwel Hohn in The Abyss, an incredible canyon carved out by the Gold River. Underwater on the YOGN-82 artificial reef in BC

British Columbia has a new addition to it’s waters - the artificial reef YOGN-82. A former US WWII gasoline barge, YOGN-82 has been part of Catalyst Paper’s Powell River breakwater for some years, finally being delivered to it's new home this past Saturday by the Artificial Reef Society of BC. Over the coming years it will become a bustling marine life habitat and a welcome addition

Thanks to Pacific Pro Dive & Marine Adventures for providing the best YOGN-82 charters, and to Krystal Janicki for a couple of behind the scenes clips!

Giant Pacific Octopus on Vancouver Island

The top 70 feet was about 1-2 feet of visibility, but it was all worth it because below that, this guy was out on the wall searching for food. This giant pacific octopus moved along with arms outstretched, feeling in the cracks of the rocks for crabs and shrimp. ValsTech, Inc.
