True to form, on the night of the performance Hank was accompanied by a band of talented musicians: Nic Wyatt, Nick Swales, Dustin Holliday, Kiel Simmons, Brenden Fraser, and Josh Walters. They performed with easy chemistry, and you could tell they were having fun with it.

This year’s event, March for Our Human Rights, focused on bodily autonomy, which is the right to self-governance over one’s own body without coercion or external pressures. This includes abortion rights, sexual health and reproductive rights, sexual consent, period equality, family planning, medical treatments, and more.

"The concept here in Sarnia is to work with community partners to get it off the ground. “We have met with many potential partners and have received a lot of positive feedback for this initiative.” Continues McCann. When speaking with the Mayor and City Staff about this initiative they seemed to want to get behind it and also realize a by-law change will need to happen in order to make Tiny Homes a reality. A recommendation is scheduled for City Councils consideration on December 9th for secondary residential unit builds."

"Over 300,000 authors from all over the world will be kicking off the first of November with a brand-new writing project and an ambitious goal: Write 50,000 words in 30 days. Whether that seems easy or impossible to you depends on where your writing skills fall on a Dunning-Kreuger curve, but it’s all part of an international challenge called National Novel Writing Month (or, NaNoWriMo, as the participants call it)."

"Three and a half years after a motion closed Jackson Pool for repairs, the motion proposed to Sarnia Council to decommission Jackson Outdoor Pool and develop an outdoor splash pad was replaced with a new motion by Bill Dennis to apply for federal infrastructure funding to refurbish or rebuild Jackson Pool on a space in Germain Park. In a 5-4 recorded vote supported by Councillors Dennis, White, Bird, Boushy and Mayor Bradley, the motion was passed."

"I along with other concerned community members created The Save Jackson Pool group back in 2017 and have been advocating to have a pool remain at the Germain Park location instead of the proposed Splash Pad. We took it upon ourselves to start this grass roots Facebook group in 2017 because what we were hearing in the community and on social media confirmed what we thought… the majority of the people wanted a second outdoor pool option."

It seems that there may be new hope for Jackson Pool as it comes before a brand-new Council Monday night.

"Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit are designed to give us the experience we want to have. Facebook algorithms work actively to curate our newsfeed with things we want to see. We are then naturally exposed to more of what we agree with and less of what we disagree with. This is called the “Facebook Bubble," and we’re only just starting to appreciate its impact."

"In communities across Canada there has been a devil's brew over the last several years, even at a time of great prosperity, for some Canadians as it relates to homelessness, mental health issues, addictions and housing. Like the Olympic rings, all these issues are combined, and Canadian communities are struggling to deal with both the short and long term impacts of the significant increase in these issues. Sarnia Lambton is no different. In the winter of 2019 the two community shelters were at capacity on a regular basis."

"The auto-centric development pattern of the post-1960’s which characterizes large parts of Sarnia comes with a very low return on investment. The public infrastructure that makes possible much of this contemporary suburban development pattern fails to generate sufficient revenue in return through property taxes to sustain that public infrastructure liability through multiple future life cycles."

http://valleyreview.ca/index.php/79-the-illusionary-wealth-of-suburban-growth

Is there enough private investment to support the community’s public investments? It’s a question we need to stop and ask ourselves.

"Amongst the questionnaire are questions on pro-choice; gender and marriage equality; federal protection of non-binary and transgender Canadians including the use of pronouns and a national standard for healthcare; justice for missing and murdered indigenous women, girls, and two spirited individuals; safety and opportunity for migrants of all backgrounds; and changing the culture of sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in work places at all levels of employment."
