The Irrawaddy River Dolphins of Kratie, proved to be a little more difficult than anticipated to capture on camera.

There are fewer then 100 thought to live in the Mekong between Kratie and the Laos boarder. This low number is actually one of the larger sub populations of only 5 for these critically endangered species according to wwf.

These boat guides are among many locals now employed through increased tourism and conservation efforts aimed at stabilizing the dolphin population here.

I’ve arrived in Vientiane, Laos. A pleasant surprise.

As soon as I stepped off my bus and walked towards the guesthouse last night there was a very different energy here. As many have said, this place is just chill.

Today I went on an excursion along the Mekong river right across from Thailand. The destination turned out to not be that photo worthy, however the ride out there was another thing.

The tuk tuks here are quite different than anywhere I’ve been before. To start they are powered by a car engine with manual transmission strapped underneath what looks like a motorcycle.

While his was burning a little oil and a lot of white smoke was coming out the tailpipe I was impressed by how powerful this machine was.

The ride was dusty and hot, however it got me thinking that a bike rental may be in my near future 🏍💨.
