Closing out another awesome year with awesome brands! A big shout-out to a truly great bunch of clients for the opportunities you’ve given us to shine.

And from Marikka Wittkamp Woolgar and myself, a huge THANK YOU to a great team that drives creative and production excellence every day. Hats off to Alex, Enrique, Marco, Nikita, Kenzie, Mark, Dom, Simon, and so many others.

In 2024, we’ll sharpen our production focus. Our goal is more doc-style brand films, more compelling short stories, and more engaging people profiles. It’s our passion and our wheelhouse after all. And, we’ve already got exciting multi-episode projects in calendar!

Remember getting payment for your first gig? We do! Storymasters was launched from the furnace room of a little war-era bungalow in the fall of 2007. Our first client was Sun Life, our second was Cisco and our third was BMO. Today, our list includes three of the big five banks, two of the big three accounting firms, the biggest grocery retailer in Canada and a wide range of amazing mid-sized firms. We’ve purposefully stayed small, nimble, personal and acutely focused on delivering quality work. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

The 5th and final installment of the ‘lost reels’ features 25 to 30 year-old clips of long form marketing pieces for Western Star, BC Tel, RBC, DND and others. In those days, a short promo film was 3-5 minutes, and took days to shoot and involved many locations! I was fortunate to travel frequently to Asia and Europe, accrue lots of Canadian Airlines miles, and stay at amazing hotels and resorts along the way. That simply doesn’t happen any more!

Installment 3 of 5: “The forgotten reels’. This demo (circa 1990-1995) is from the golden era of ‘edu-tainment’ when employees rotated through corporate auditoriums learning about workplace harassment, job stress, site safety, and even earthquake preparedness. A typical shoot was 5-7 days, involved actors, stunt people, and great crews. I learned to be nimble, flexible, and fast. We had so much fun.

I found this clip on a 27 year-old demo reel! I was freelancing as a director/cameraman and wearing many hats at the time. This piece includes scenes from a series of third world development docs I shot and edited. Amazing and life-changing experiences all of them!
