I have been sitting at home doing not a whole lot so I invite you to check out Episode 1 of my production/ mixing/ recording series! I am going to be showing some projects I have been lucky enough to work on and how we went about creating the final product.

First up we have The Nielsens which also happens to be my band! We are currently remixing and doing some re recording on our first EP. This was recorded with an older line up consisting of some of my favourite Edmonton musicians/ people!

Also this needs a name so if someone can help me come up with something catchy.

Pitch II??? Come on Cody, you have officially lost your marbles. However this guy is an absolute beast on vocals for creating spaces. Yeah you can pitch and all of that which it does get used for occasionally, but the real winners on this pig are the sliders below, especially the delay features. I am not a big reverb fan (5 points if you can guess my most used reverb) and prefer fairly dry mixes and room sounds so I use this setting to help put instruments into a space.

Also try: Stock Pro Tools delay does the same job, just no option for pitch if you want that. Soundtoys Microshift. Any chorusing plugin should also do the trick.

Here is another one of my best friends, Avid LoFi! This is a stock Pro Tools plugin and one of the most underrated plugs out there. Anyone who has worked with me before knows that I am a sucker for distortion and this is a super soft knee style clipper so you can get away with quite a bit. I only use the distortion k**b as the other stuff doesn't do anything for me. The one thing about this plugin that isn't very cool is there is no output control so you have to rebalance the source 9 times out of 10. Other than that I give it 10/10 Cody's.

Really starting to feel the isolation these days so I'd like you folks to meet my closest friends that I work with everyday. If you are an audio person as well I hope you can find something interesting in this as I am going mostly focus on non hardware recreation plugins as they are extremely overlooked in my opinion. I feel that the vast majority of the audio world is only focused on getting the perfect 1:1 hardware recreation as a plugin. Don't get me wrong I use the hardware recreations just as much as the next person but I don't think they are even close to the end all. I'm sorry but you don't need 14 different 1176 plugins. Get over it. With the money you spent on those you could probably have bought a hardware one ya do**us.

First up is the Boz Digital Labs Transgressor. Like all transient designers you can control the amount of attack and sustain but with this puppy you can EQ the attack and sustain separate! Holy cow! Fantastic for removing nasty long sustaining overtones without sacrificing any smack or body on a snare.

Other options include: SPL Transient designer. Softube Transient Shaper.
