It’s with heavy hearts we share that Mheyah passed away peacefully early Sunday, November 5, 2023, surrounded by her sons and loved ones.
For those of you who knew and loved her, and followed her adventures and creations here, you’ll know how much she treasured her time with her family, grandchildren, friends and pets; how much she loved finding and creating beauty in life; and how she truly believed a miracle could be waiting around any corner, and that many of life’s problems could be improved upon by a simple cup of English tea.
Mheyah valued connection immensely, and we want to thank you for the connections you made with her. We have found so much comfort in the outpouring of love, support and memories that have been shared with us through the many people who Mheyah touched.
We will continue to monitor and respond to messages from her social accounts so please do feel free to keep the memories and love coming. They mean the world to us, and would have meant the world to Mheyah.
Mheyah had so hoped for another trip Scotland, and though it wasn’t meant to be, we thought it fitting to share these words from her ancestral home.
Margaret’s Moon — by Jackie Kay
After she died, I swear the sky
Had the most beautiful of all sunsets,
A blush of pink, then red, a glass of red,
Sudden dark and a hammock moon,
Then its faint silhouette, almost secret.
Life half-written, half unsaid.
I had kissed your head in the strange room.
Then later, I blew a kiss to the stars, to regret.
Margaret,
I imagined you lifting your head, your arms,
Loosening them, shedding skin and cells and bone
Till you became all spirit, released
Into the cairns, hills, the braes, barley,
The sea lochs and the sea and at last,
At least it seemed to me, you were free.
