Venus Envy turned 19 on June 23! Tonight, we’re headed back to the early aughts to explore the sonic roots of this little radio show. There is some folk, a few female-fronted rock bands and some trio hop. On tonight’s episode of Venus Envy, we’re doing something a little different. Part bedtime story, part jukebox musical, tonight’s show spins a tale of a young woman who finds herself and then loses herself in order to find herself again. Take a generous amount of Greek mythology, throw in some familiar archetypes, lyrical songwriting, and powerhouse vocals, and you’ve got a tale fit for a Queen (of the underworld.) But I believe that we have more allies than enemies.

Tonight’s episode of Venus Envy is all about villains! Those characters you love, or love to hate. In stories, female villains are often afforded more autonomy than other female characters. They don’t have to play by the rules. They know what they want, and they’re not afraid to go out and get it. They have their own damn castles and most of all, they have POWER.
