Good article on internal linking… short story is it’s very good for SEO 😊

Internal Links are hyperlinks that point to another webpage (or resource) on the same website/domain. Hyperlinks are either 'external' or 'internal' depending on their target URL destination. Internal links are most useful for establishing a strong website architecture and spreading link equity.

Even professionals have the occasional brain fart. A few weeks ago I managed to get my IP address blocked by my web hosting provider, SiteGround. They use this great firewall that detects malicious intent and automatically puts a block in place to stop it.

Unfortunately, SiteGround's firewall decided MY computers were bots and blocked me. I'm in the zone, working hard on a website when all of a sudden I'm stopped from doing anything more...

I reached out to SiteGround on chat and within 5 minutes I was unblocked. Awesome support!

But wait... that's not the end. A week later SiteGround's firewall blocked me again. This time I did a major look at my computers... and found I had misconfigured my mail app. Three decades of working in IT and I used the wrong password. 🤣 Ok, fixed what was getting my IP address blocked. Next problem.

I signed into my SiteGround account (with 2FA of course) and started to submit a request through their support tool. It detected that my IP had been blocked and offered to unblock it for me automatically! Not only great support but great support tools as well.

Another CRA scam! This is a phishing scam. It tries to look legit while attempting to obtain your banking credentials.

Here are a few tips on recognizing such scams…

The Canada Revenue Agency will never send you a notice like this; that should be your first tip. Second, if you know how much my “return” is, how come there’s no additional personal detail like name?

You will also notice this is not a CRA web address. The site tries to look like it’s for your 2021 tax return, but ask yourself why the CRA would set up another web address when they have a perfectly good one.

If you’re really paying attention, you’ll notice that ‘income’ is spelled incorrectly in the web address.

If your banking information is incorrect, the CRA will send you a check, not a text message sending you to Interac

Last but not least, tax returns don’t expire. The CRA currently has returns from 1998 that still haven’t been paid out.

Have you noticed a 'Diesel Brothers' Facebook Giveaway post appearing as a comment on one of your posts? While 'Diesel Brothers' are an authentic brand, the post does not originate from them.

This post has you register on a website to 'receive' your $10,000, which is really just a way to get personal data which could lead to further implications, including potential financial loss.

Don't do it!

The real Diesel Brothers, whose likeness was used without permission, had nothing to do with the scam.

Due to the lockdowns over the last two years, many people I know have been ordering things online and having them delivered. Some packages are even delivered by Canada Post.

I just got phished this evening by someone pretending to be Canada Post. Phishing is when scammers create a site that LOOKS like its legitimate namesake, with the sole purpose of gathering personal and/or financial data.

I receive a text message from Canada Post (red flag #1) that my package couldn’t be delivered (red flags #2 and #3, been home all day and CP doesn’t deliver on the weekend) so I would need to pay to reschedule delivery (red flag #4, not a CP policy).

I followed the link to they payment page. (I knew the risks… don’t try at home). Links on the page went back to this same page (red flag #5).

If something doesn’t seem right in an email or text message, DON’T CLICK. And definitely DON’T follow payment links sent via email. While things may look legitimate, this is just a fancy way of getting your banking details.
