dition, we highlight local artists and musicians, expose you to the region’s best chefs and restaurants as well as home décor, fashion and health issues while providing an up-close look at personalities and businesses that have taken root east
of the city. East of the City publishes every two months with uniquely local and relevant content.
After 15 years, and over 100 editions, I will be stepping down as editor of East magazine to pursue other opportunities.
It has been a privilege and pleasure to feature hundreds of people and places in the community and I look forward to seeing what the future holds in Durham Region.

East Magazine is currently seeking experienced Durham-based feature writers on a freelance basis for the 2019 editorial year. If you have a firm grasp of the English language, a proven track record of excellent feature writing, an ability to meet deadlines, and can manage multiple assignments, please send your resume and samples of your professional work to [email protected] for consideration. Any questions will be answered privately as this page is not routinely monitored.
Story length is generally 1000 words, while topics include general lifestyle, dining, travel, and some advertorial.

We are looking to feature Durham Region's most beautiful backyard! If you think yours fits the bill, send colour photos (1MB each) to [email protected], detailing the designer, landscaper, furnishings and budget (optional).

We are now seeking Durham Region-based foodies to write restaurant reviews and general food pieces on a bi-monthly, freelance basis. Articles will be 1,000 words plus a supplied recipe/sidebar. If you are a proven self starter, please send your resume and links to your published work to [email protected]. In addition to storytelling, you will be required to also generate your own leads, occasionally.
