On Election Day of 1872, Susan B. Anthony illegally voted for Ulysses S Grant (R) for President of the United States. That night, she wrote to her friend and fellow suffragette, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, "Well, I have been and gone and done it!"
2 weeks later, Susan B. Anthony was arrested and then tried, convicted, and sentenced to a $100 fine, which she swore to never pay - and she never did!
