Oyedepo: I’ll Lay My Bare Hands on COVID-19 Patient, Breathe into Them

Presiding Bishop and founder of Living Faith Chapel, David Oyedopo, has said he would lay his bare hands and breathe into any COVID-19 patient brought to him for prayer.
Oyedepo declared this during a programme on Saturday.

“Can you imagine anyone bringing a coronavirus patient to me and I won’t lay hands on him? Will I wear gloves to lay hands on them?

“I will lay hands on them; breathe into them; embrace them. What you carry is eternal life, it’s not human life. You should know that,” he said during the broadcast.

As expected, his broadcast message has gone viral and has attracted diverse reactions from his church members and the general public.

But this is not the first time the bishop would be courting controversies because of his Covid-19 related statements.

Recall on June 28 during a sermon, he claimed his church recorded 114 Covid-19 healing testimonies.

Additionally, he said, Lagos and Ogun states were infected with an anti-church virus and not COVID-19.

He also condemned the closure of churches and other worship centres by Lagos and Ogun States governments.

In his latest video, he lampooned people who wear nose masks and gloves to protect themselves from contracting the virus.

“You’ll now wear everything like a doctor, you have never been to a theatre in your life. You will be moving like somebody is under some attack. Someday, they will know that they have been deceived.

“They will all know that they have been grossly deceived,” he said expressing doubt in the virus and its preventive measures.

”You’ve covered your mouth: do you cover it when you want to eat or there is no coronavirus when you are eating? I just look at it and say, ‘what is all this?”.

He also inferred that the current COVID-19 preventive measures were not of God.

Oyedepo said, “It’s all the devil trying to dehumanise humanity. Don’t go near old people, yet you are buying food from them! Do you ask somebody of her age when you want to buy food: ‘Hello Mama, what’s your age?’ Age of what? Get out, my friend. I am selling something and you’re asking my age.

“COVID-19 cannot be any reason why your own ‘breaking limit’ package will not be delivered. It’s not a tenable reason. No circumstance on earth will make the covenant of God of no effect.

“You can imagine a medical doctor going back there to minister to coronavirus patients (documented testimony). He found something, while others are scared by everything they can see,” he concluded.

Osinbajo Wants ‘False’ Allegations Linking Him to Magu ‘Funds’ Investigated

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who is also an ordained pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, over allegations linking him to funds allegedly stolen by anti-corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu.

An online platform, PointBlank News, run by Jackson Ude, a former director of strategy and communications under President Goodluck Jonathan administration, on July 8, published that Mr Magu embezzled over N39 billion and gave Mr Osinbajo N4 billion for soft landing.

The report claimed that unnamed sources within the panel investigating the suspended EFCC boss “exposed the vice president’s involvement in the scandal.”

“Specifically, Magu was said to have mentioned a N4 billion that he released to the VP based on directives the very day the president left the country for the United Kingdom on medical treatment,” part of the report read.

It did not give details of which of the president’s numerous medical trips to the United Kingdom it referred to and provided no evidence to back the claim.

In an earlier statement, Mr Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, described the claims as “false and baseless fabrications.”

Osinbajo in a letter to the IGP through his lawyer, Taiwo Osipitan, on Wednesday said the report was untrue and defamatory.

He also copied the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in the letter.

“On the 8th of July 2020, Mr Ude wrote and published on his website www.pointblanknews.com materials/stories which are criminally defamatory of our client. We have the instructions of our client that the said publications are injuriously false in every respect,” the lawyer partly said.

The vice president also frowned at Mr Ude’s Twitter publication where he again accused Osinbajo
of corruption.

“HushBajo. N4billion. The Ghana investment. Okechukwu Enelamah the erand boy. The secretly recorded night vigil prayers at the Villa Chapel. The letter of resignation written for Buhari in Tunis by Tinubu/Osinabjo while Ba was sick. The scheming to take over. Etc. This na pay back, the tweet read.

The tweet was said to have been shared on several social media platforms to make the vice president appear like a “dishonest and disloyal public officer and consequently unfit for the position of the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which he is occupying,” the official said.

The lawyer asked the IGP to investigate the allegations and if the purveyor was found guilty, the police should initiate criminal proceedings against Mr Ude and his platform to restrain them from future ‘false publications’.

Before now, there have been different unproven reports against Mr Osinbajo in the media.

The Vanguard newspaper in September last year apologised to Mr Osinbajo over a news report alleging that he mismanaged N90 billion said to have been released by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 general elections.

The vice president disclosed then that he was ready to wave his constitutionally guaranteed immunity from prosecution to ensure persons who spread falsehood about him were brought to book.

PREMIUM TIMES reported Mr Magu’s arrest on Monday afternoon at the Wuse II office of the EFCC and how he was taken directly to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he appeared before a presidential panel investigating alleged corruption and insurbordination.

The allegations were levelled against him by Mr Malami. He accused Mr Magu of insubordination and re-looting of recovered funds.

The two have clashed several times over the years.

On Tuesday, Mr Magu was suspended from office. He is still being detained while the panel investigating allegations against him is still sitting.

Married Woman Caught in the Act with Her Pastor
* "He seduced me by offering emotional and financial support"

The lady identified as Jane Omwaga was caught in her matrimonial home at Elukho village in Lurambi constituency Kakamega County, Kenya after her husband, Josephat Omwaga who works as a security guard at a local market returned home unannounced.

It was gathered that the paramour who is a Pastor at Solid Rock for Jesus Christ Church in Lurambi where Jane fellowships fled from the scene, leaving behind his motorcycle and some of his clothes.

The mother of three who explained why she got intimate with her pastor, accused her husband of not fulfilling his s*xual and financial obligations.

Jane said;

“The pastor came to my home at 5am and knocked on my door, I let him in. We storied for some time and, thereafter, got in bed. We got intimate, and while at it, I heard my husband knocking on the door. The pastor and I hopped out of bed. I, thereafter, opened the backdoor for him (Olutatwa) to escape. However, my husband managed to open the main door and got in before the pastor could get far. However, my lover managed to pass through a barbed wire fence as my husband chased him with a panga in his hands.

“The pastor had seduced me recently. He said he wanted me, both emotionally and s*xually. And, because he had shown that he had my interest at heart — by offering me financial and emotional support — I decided to allow him have s*x with me. It was the first time he and I were getting intimate. My husband’s constant insecurity — that I was cheating on him — also pushed me to actually do it.”

Omwaga on his own part said he won’t forgive his wife of 20 years for cheating on him.

He said;

“Had I busted my wife having s*x with the pastor in a sugarcane plantation or maize plantation, I would have forgiven her. However, she chose to disrespect me by bringing another man to our matrimonial bed, that is the highest level of disrespect, and I won’t tolerate it. I have made it clear to my spouse that I am divorcing her, and I would, thereafter, sell the parcel of land where our matrimonial home seats on, and relocate elsewhere.”

Before returning to her parents’ home in Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, Jane, and Moses Olutatwa were asked to produce one cow each.

Jackson Makale, a Luhya elder told K24 Digital that the act of offering a cow each would shield the wrongdoers’ families against misfortunes such as mysterious ailments or even deaths.

Area chief, Alex Mutende also condemned the incident and further revealed that the police has launched investigations into the ”shameful incident.”

Revolt Against Satan in Abia
• Youths demolished worship centre
• Founder arrested for violating COVID-19 guideline
• Council chairman rejects continued occupation of the land

Founder of the Assemblies of Light Bearer Greater Church of Lucifer, popularly known as Church of Satan, Ohafia, Abia State, Ifekwe Udo has been arrested by Abia State command of the Nigeria police.

His church has also been allegedly pulled down by youths in the area, which is the home town of popular tele-evangelist, Rev (Dr) Uma Ukpai.

It was gathered that police arrested Udo, also known as Lucifer or Fada-Fada earlier in the week for violating the lockdown protocol directives of both the state and federal governments.

Udo, who is reported to own a brothel in Ohafia was also said to have been arrested for allegedly terrorising the community and this led to the youth of the area destroying the satanic images outside his church when he was arrested.

A native of the community who gave his name simply as Kalu said:

“There is nothing people cannot do now just for money and power,” he said. “He claims to have the power Satan has. He is known to use voodoo power on his members and has been getting away with so many things until now.

“It was a thing of joy and happiness for the people of Ohafia around the world that this man has been arrested by the police. Udo became popular few years back when he established his Church of Satan and began to give some jobless youths in the community motorcycles on hire purchase”.

This is coming as the chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area, Fred Idika said the council would not want Udo and his Church of Satan to come back in the area as he was a bad influence to the community.

He said the state commissioner of police alerted them that the founder of the Church of Satan, Ohafia violated the COVID-19 protocol directives and that they were coming down to shut the place, and that police went there with the Mobile Court to shut down the church.

Idika said before now, Udo and others had been arrested by police from Force Headquarters, Abuja “under offence I do not know about, but until they were arraigned, we should be able to know why they were arrested”.

The Council boss said even if the founder of the church of Satan was released, the council “would not want him to continue with what he is doing in Ohafia because he is a very bad influence on the community”.

OPINION

Aregbesola and the Churches

There is no law that empowers the minister to tax every branch of a particular church, writes Sonnie Ekwowusi

Despite protestations by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and members of the Civil Society, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is still insisting that all Christian churches in Nigeria must comply with his directive and pay the increased marriage tax or licence of N30,000 in order to continue to conduct Christian marriages in their respective churches or worship centres in Nigeria. This is contained in the circular from the minister’s office currently making the rounds.

July 1 2020 was the deadline given by the minister for compliance. As one staff of the Ministry of Interior later clarified, the said tax is not payable by one Christian church as a legal body but also payable by all the branches or parishes of the same church within Nigeria. That is, if, for example, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has 5,500 branches or parishes in Lagos State, each of those branches or parishes will be expected to pay N30,000 to Aregbesola’s Ministry of Interior. In the same vein, all the parishes of the Catholic Church or Anglican Church or Baptist church or Methodist church or other churches are also expected to pay the tax failure which they shall be barred from conducting Christian marriages.

This is quite disturbing. How can the minister expect every branch or parish of a particular church to pay marriage tax or licence? Do the calculation yourself. You can imagine the enormous amount of money the ministry would rake from different branches and parishes of different Christian churches in Nigeria. To begin with, there is no law in Nigeria that empowers the minister to levy the aforesaid marriage tax on every branch or parish of a particular church. Agreed, celebration of marriages in Nigeria is governed by the Marriage Act. Despite the avalanche of conflicting views on the issue, the formation, annulment and dissolution of marriages other than marriages under Islamic law and Customary law in Nigeria, is a matter reserved for the Exclusive Legislative List as contained in the Second schedule, item 61, of our 1999 Constitution.

By virtue of this all matters connected with conduct of marriage under the Marriage Act and issuing of marriage certificate are outside the purview of the state and/or local government areas. Specifically, section 7 (5) (under item 1(i) of its fourth schedule) of our 1999 Constitution vests the “registration of all births, death and marriages” solely on the local governments areas in Nigeria. It is not surprising therefore that in the case of Haastrup & others V. Eti-Osa local government & others, and, the popular class case of Olumide Babalola V Ikeja Local Government Area & Others and other cases, the lower courts had relied heavily on the Supreme Court decisions in Anyaegbunam V Anyaegbunam (1973) and Mobil Producing (Nig.) Unlimited. V Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) (2002) in holding that marriages can be contracted under a licence granted by the Director General, Ministry of Internal Affairs (now Ministry of Interior) but that registration of marriages is within the exclusive authority of the Local Government Areas in Nigeria in accordance with the provisions of section 30(1) of the Marriage Act and section 7(5) of our 1999 Constitution. But, as I said earlier, there is no law authorizing the Minister of Interior to slam the aforesaid marriage tax on every branch or parish of a particular church.

The great danger in Minister Aregbesola acting ultra vires his powers is that it is a recipe for the emasculation of Christian churches in Nigeria in violation of the right to freedom of religious worship as enshrined in section 38 (1) of our 1999 Constitution. Sincerely speaking, I can’t make any sense any more in many things happening in our country at the moment. Not long ago, an attempt was made to control NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria. Several attempts had been made to control free speech in Nigeria. An attempt is being made to control Social Media. As I have consistently argued on this page and elsewhere, government does not exist in vacuo.

Government drives its origin and survival from mediating structures – civil society, churches, mosques, town union and so forth. In this context, government should see mediating structures as partners in progress not as enemies to be scuttled or destroyed. I may be wrong but this is the first time a minister in Nigeria is fashioning out a policy capable of emasculating the Christian churches. Before Aregbesola was appointed the Minister of Interior, Christian churches in Nigeria had been conducting their respective church marriages upon the payment of the token statutory licence fee without any inhibitions. How come that it is now that churches are having this problem?

In his defence, Aregbesola alleges that he duly consulted stakeholders before taxing the Christian churches. With the greatest respect, this is not true. The leaders of CAN, PFN, other church bodies and the civil society were not consulted prior to slamming the tax on the churches. This is sad. This testifies to the utter contempt for the people of Nigeria by the government. We claim to be practising presidential democracy yet the views of stakeholders are excluded in policymaking processes. You see, life is live and let live. Treat the others as you would want them to treat you. What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander. We are all united in the worship of one God. We are all brothers and sisters, members of one household of God.

Therefore there is no need to discriminate against any religion. We must constantly remind ourselves that by virtue of section 10 of the 1999 Constitution Nigeria is a secular state. Consequently, the government of Nigeria must not make a policy perceived by the public as giving one religion an advantage over the other. More importantly, we must be careful with religious issues. Religious issues can be volatile as much as they can be divisive. At this time in the life of our country in which the government claims to be fostering national unity, integration, social justice and social equality anything capable of fanning the embers religious disunity, mutual suspicious and hatred should be avoided.

Lockdown of Worship Centres No Longer Acceptable, Says CAN

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked states government that are yet to lift the ban on religious gathering, particularly the churches, to do so as quickly as possible or expect unfriendly reactions from the churches.

CAN, specifically, appealed to the Lagos, Ogun and other state governments where churches are still under lockdown to relax it for God’s sake.

This is contained in a statement released in Abuja, on Tuesday and signed by President of the association, Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle, declaring that enough is enough, insisting that the continued lockdown order on the places of worship is no longer acceptable and reasonably justified.

He was unhappy that despite the directive given by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 with regards to the re-opening of places of worship nationwide, some states like Lagos and Ogun are yet to allow worship places, especially churches, to be reopened. “What sin have the places of worship committed?,” he asked.

He reminded the states that the leadership of CAN had agreed with the government on the need to close down the places of worship, economy, schools and every other facet of life during the early days of the pandemic in February/March.

“But with the reopening of the economy, especially the markets, both organised and the unorganised markets, along with the reopening airports and schools, the closure of churches anywhere in the country is no longer tenable and acceptable.

“In what way are the opened and road side markets more organised than the church which warranted their opening? Is it not our members in the places of worship that do go to markets and other sectors that are reopened? Why are they allowed to go to markets and disallowed from going to places of worship? Is it because the marketers cannot contact the virus in the markets and airports?,” he asked.

CAN, however, suggested that, while the government and other relevant stakeholders are working hard to get cure for the COVID-19 pandemic, the Church too has a role to play by seeking for divine solutions to the pandemic.

It added: “As much as we believe that COVID-19 deserves attention, it’s our belief that the affected state governments would not turn a deaf ear to our quest but allow worship to return to places of worship.”

Man, 78, Lost Wife, Children to War
* Got a Bible after praying for 54 years

A certain man of the Christian faith, whose name is Kar, 78 years old, was once married and blessed with nine children but now lives alone following the death of all his children in the jungle in 1992 when they were forced to run for their lives from the Burmese military.

According to the report monitored on www.asiaharvest.org, Kar while narrating his ordeal said: "My wife was killed by a bomb in 1993.

"I don't have any living relatives, and I don't even know where the other people are from my village, as we all fled in different directions."

Kar who felt what the Biblical Job went through was child's play compared to him, said: "My life is horrible, and I have lost everything. I feel my life is even worse than what Job experienced in the Bible."

Kar on the other hand desire to own a Bible written in his own language which he has been asking God for in the last 54 years, being the most precious thing in his life.

"I have always wanted to read the Bible in my language, but I have never been able to find one.

"Throughout my life I've frequently asked pastors and evangelists where I could get a Bible, but they always told me it was impossible. I decided to trust God, as I realized only He has the power to meet my need.

"I started praying for a Bible in 1966 when I was 24-years-old. After praying for 54 years, God has answered my petitions! I have received your free Bible and I am so happy! Even though I only live in a simple thatch hut and am all alone, Jesus Christ has not forgotten me and He has encouraged me with His love! The Bible has become the most precious thing in my life. It is truly the living Word of God. Thanks to you all," he concluded.

GO, Associate Pastor Arrested for Running Baby Factory
* Use drug addicts to get girls pregnant

River State Police command have arrested a couple, Chidi and Maureen Martins, who allegedly specialize in selling day-old babies to prospective buyers at a church in the Rumuolumili area of Port Harcourt.

Their arrest on Thursday, came after police invaded the church, Grate Mercy Deliverance Ministry, at number 3, Giwa Street in Rumuolumili area, Port Harcourt.

According to the Police, the suspects usually search for pregnant teenagers across Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Imo states. During the arrest, three newly born babies, their mothers, and three pregnant teenagers were rescued.

A police source stated, “A couple, who came to buy a baby boy and a girl from Maureen, were also arrested. They paid N3.5m. The children are those of Patience and Favour. The two babies were sold to the couple as twins.

While admitting to the crime, Maureen said she had lost count of the number of babies she had sold.

In the course of our investigations we discovered that pregnant teenagers were usually induced into delivery when their pregnancies were eight months old due to demand from people who wanted to buy the babies.

They also had a woman known as IB, who is on the run now, who would go out to scout for these girls who would then be made pregnant by drug addicts.

She usually sold baby boys for N1.5million, while baby girls were sold for N1.1million. Maureen is the General overseer of her church, while her husband is an associate pastor.

We are currently tracing over 20 children which they had sold. We learned that when a child was born, Maureen would ask the mother not to breast feed the child so that the child would not get used to breast milk and this would enable their new mothers to feed them with baby milk.”

Treasuredlife Family Church is 13

"Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28).

Drawing his inspiration from the above biblical quotation, the Senior Pastor of Treasuredlife Family Church, Bishop Bolu Martins, said the fold will on Sunday mark its 13th anniversary at the church headquarters in Kano.

Bishop Bolu, who made this known in a telephone chat, said, looking back on how the church started, “We are having our 13th anniversary thanksgiving on Sunday, just to thank God for how far He has helped us in shepharding the flock."

A lot of programmes have been lined up for the event, which promises to be evergreen.

Showmanship or Prophesying?

How does one relate this clip and the analysis in 1Cor.14:6 which says:
"Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?"

Where is the revelation here? Where is the Prophesying? Is God involved in this? Most painful aspect of the drama is members were even dazzled and brazenly screaming for joy towards this showmanship. This is worrisome!

Well, someone will say they are comedians and if they are, why joke with things of the spirit?
