THE GAME CHANGER.

You’ve heard us talk about lighting many times on our channels/platforms. The reason for that is we want to hammer home the importance of proper lighting within your productions. Lighting is arguably the most important visual aspect of video production. As up and coming videographers, photographers and creators we often obsess over that new camera lens, the new camera body or the newest gimbal. However you should be investing in proper lighting before you get the top end camera and lenses. We’ve all made this mistake... so don’t feel bad if you’re sitting there feeling guilty right now. Proper lighting will allow you to use a lower end camera but make it seem as if you are using a professional/cinema grade camera if executed properly. We recently copped another Aputure 300d Mark ii. If you ask anyone on our team they will tell you having two of these beasts has taken our productions to the next level! As a filmmaker, what lights are you using in your productions?

Our editing wizard has recently picked up a new hobby, air soft. This was probably influenced from the heated games of COD played at our office during upload times. He’s now recruited to be apart of his squad. You can catch the subtle squad tearing up the battlefield on the weekends. There may be some in game action coming your way in the weeks to come.

Sound Design 🔊.

You’ve heard us talk about the importance of sound design time and time again. Here is a split screen for a recent production where we recorded 90% of the sound design on set. We used the Zoom H4N to capture realistic sounds that were then overlaid in post production. As filmmakers it can be difficult to find the right sound for certain shots. One way you can reduce time looking for sounds online is to take some extra time on set to record your own. It’s an easy thing to do and will help you level up your productions. These are original sounds that match the actions seen on video. It’s the little details that count when creating a professional production!

For @99.films & hockey played an integral role in their lives growing up. This project was a collision of their childhood passions with their current passion of video production. It was a lot of fun for both of them to be apart of this project for & . The fellas are jacked up to get back on the ice and capture more hockey content for these two companies. We’ve become a brotherhood. This is a random moment that occurred at our office today. Matt grabbed the .lighting dome and started bouncing around like the Pixar light. “Filmmaking and photography have always been my favourite things to do. I started with astrophotography because it was relaxing to go out at night and find a quiet spot to take photos. I moved away and played hockey in Sweden, at this point I started to film my friends and I hanging out for memories. I fell in love with the entire process and continued filming. Even though filmmaking is my job, it all started as a hobby and still is my favourite pastime. I also enjoy travelling, spending time outside, and creating content with other creatives.”
Dyson is the newest addition to the . Dyson has spent the better part of the past 3 years shadowing and absorbing everything that Anastas knows about video. He’s almost like a mini me. Jokes aside, his skills at video production are far past his years. He is insanely talented and we couldn’t be more stoked to have him joining our squad. Show our dude some love!

“I started pursuing video/photo right after I graduated high-school in 2017. A close friend of mine was starting to build and modify one of his cars at the time and he got me into photography after seeing what his nifty fifty was capable of. After a few months of shooting my friends cars, and whatever I could find around the streets of Regina, I decided to venture off into portraits. Starting with my family, my friends, and it eventually led to where I am now. After gaining some experience, I purchased my first full frame camera. A Sony a7ii. After this purchase, I was finally able to start shooting and learning more about video. I instantly fell in love with the entire creation process. From shooting, to editing, to endless Youtube tutorials. To this date my favourite thing to shoot is still anything automotive related! One of my favourite things about shooting automotive cinematics is being able to show off the hard work and dedication that many of these people go through during the off season!”
Matt is the office clown. Always has a joke or two up his sleeve. There is an ongoing debate as to whether or not he is the best COD player on the squad. Maybe one day we will do a live stream and let y’all decide for us! Matt’s a photoshop wizard, and can make anyone look good. He’s been levelling up his video skills at an alarming rate, I guess thats what happens when you learn from Anastas.

Kyle is born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. His passion for entrepreneurship started at a young age. He grew up playing sports competitively, and it was through these experiences that he discovered his passion for leadership. He is the glue that holds the squad together and the man behind the aerials at Subtle Cinematics. Outside of work Kyle enjoys spending time outdoors fishing and camping during the summer. If he’s not at the office, you can find him on the golf course.

Our pals are revitalizing . A 106 year old heritage property here in Regina. We’ve been tasked with documenting and educating the audience of on what is being done and why. This style of content is a nice hybrid between cinematic and informational. This was a strategy we landed on because of the magnitude of this project. There is a lot of history entrenched in this building and the is going to be educating their audience on how their are maintaining the history while revitalizing the property with a modern twist.

This thing is a BEAST! We’ve only had one day of flight with this new drone but it already has us blown away.
Here are some of the specs that we found to amazing after our initial impression:
