Brick and Mortar is my friend because I forget to order things online and it’s Christmas Eve and I need to print signage for Boxing Day and my toner is dead.

But also my credit card is maxed out so online shopping isn’t an option. We have money but moving it from the bank to the card will take time.

Cheers to those of us who don’t have our s**t together to order online.

I’m gonna say it - I don’t think City heard the community.

They consulted us - but they didn’t really hear what was said. They asked us what we wanted - and low key ignored it. I’m so glad we spent all that money to just keep it the same.

There’s no way the anti worker sentiment is anything other than internet bots - that’s my Monday morning conclusion because what the actually f**k.

Someone told me people don’t need more than 3 weeks vacation; and others don’t believe wages should increase with inflation; and some insist that benefits should somehow mean people don’t need a liveable take home wage

These cannot be real people.
That is my conclusion.

Real people have compassion. Real people want other people to succeed.

Tbh. The fight against stains in your kids clothing has now become a side hobby of things I do in my downtime - I’m not very good at downtime.

This week is tackling yellow stains in baby onesies. And I ordered more things for a few other stains I know I can defeat.

It should be noted that I do not and have not ever stain treated my own clothing because it’s not fun when it’s your chore for existing. It’s only fun when it’s someone else’s

Ordering Winter 2025 - people want choices so it’s trying to find that nice little balance of ordering everything but also not everything because you can’t afford everything you can’t sell everything.

It’s also thinking about whether or not you want to order those products you didn’t have this year or if you just wanna leave those for the Internet .

and it’s trying to guess how fast people’s kids are gonna grow and if they need snow suits or not this year and I think that’s one thing this year you know people tend to buy a snow jacket every other year so I should look at the data from two years ago and had two years of growth

But for serious, probably overthinking this and just need to hit submit one actually three orders in for next year couple more to go

This is the next five year goal - to figure out how to grow the business enough to double our space and thus our rent.

Sometimes I wonder if that’s even possible to regularly gurn $50k a month as a small shop in children’s in a rather isolated community of 80,000.

For serious - I look at some of the big shops in town and I just go, hot dang - how do they make rent and payroll each month 🤣

Small shop owners who want you to make sustainable shopping choices but it’s also Black Friday and they have too much inventory and need it to find homes so they can have money to pay the people we need to pay 😖

Trying to not stress about things I cannot control, but also a little part of my brain is thinking “can I replace that USA brand with another product in 2025?”

And if the exchange rate with the US dollar continues to plummet - what products will I have to give up and where can I get a replacement? Do I need a replacement?

One pain point is even international brands will have you buy in USD —- and it’s like why? I’d rather pay you in AUD or Euro. 🫠

And then I remember my s**tty new insurance plan and its limitations 😑😑😑

Also casually wondering if I can ditch Shopify…

This is what I want to do - replace a broken birthday present on a Friday night. I wish I could have earlier in the week, but schedules.

Entrepreneurship stuff on the internet is filled with dreams I rarely ever relate to. I don’t want to work less than I just want to work better? More impactfully?

We did get a lot of tags this weekend - but we all know this feeling of trying to exist in a world of Walmart and international digital advertising.

I need an exterior store sign. But we haven’t really made the profit yet to pay for it.

The Canada Post Strike had many of us talking about third party couriers- and just saying a quick google tells you that many of these low cost couriers are taking advantage of people.

This is why unions exist.
And you might not care until you get in a car accident with an overworked delivery contractor - but we should care a little more

I am currently in the state of wanting to work with my brand wraps and distributors as a business owner like I’m tired of ordering things by myself through a website without some support.

Which truthfully feels like a complete 180 from other periods of time, but like your girls lonely, and I don’t have a manager to bounce ideas off of, so I definitely want to gossip and learn from your distributors and your reps

When you’re sitting down to prepare for a brand call to plan winter 2025 orders and you’re feeling both frustrated and terrified at the same time.

Starting over. Again.

Building brand awareness is a massive part of a small retail - and for the most part it can take up to a year for customers to really recognize that you have a brand. It’s a long game - especially in Prince George where I find most people don’t expect to find things locally and almost always default online.

Northern communities default to a brand they know and love. Introducing new can be an expensive mistake.

Reading through boot reviews, I’m not sure I love this option. Their outerwear might be a good addition, but now I feel myself trying to find something else.

I know what customers want - lightweight, -20, and easy to put on. It needs to be easy to put on. And that often means some sort of opening. It also needs to be water proof and the price point under $100 is best.

We put in a few more applications.
Winter 2025 buying season will be over before we know it.
