Want to know the proper microphone placement for podcast recording?
I see a lot of people using improper mic placement and techniques online. And it drives me crazy!
Without proper mic placement, your podcast will sound...well, I hate to say it, but it will sound TERRIBLE!
So here's a quick cheat sheet. The distance between the microphone and your mouth should be anywhere between 4 to 6 inches.
Start 6 inches away and move closer if you want a more fuller sound.
Pro tip: do test recordings and experiment to see what sounds best. It will take a couple of tries, but it will be worth your time.

Is your podcast ready for the summer?
Some of my clients like to slow down during the summer. But that doesn't mean that they completely shut down their podcast.
That's exactly what my amazing client and good friend @monitanner1 will be doing with her show. We've come up with a plan where she will be working less on her show but at the same time will not miss one week of airing her show. Work smarter, not harder!
How is she doing that? Monica has an extensive library of over 270 shows that she can revisit and air. Paired with some new lead magnet ads inbeded in her shows, her show and business will continue to grow while she spends some quality time with her family.
As a podcaster and business owner, it's essential to recharge, take a break, enjoy the sun, and come back refreshed. It's a sure way to avoid the dreaded "podfade".

There is no podcast mixing and editing this week. I made sure that all my clients had batched a couple of episodes so that I wouldn't need to edit and mix any podcast shows this week.
It is a much needed break after a couple of stressful weeks having had not one but two eye surgeries.
The family and I needed this.

When the podcast swear jar is overflowing, it's time to edit!
Here's a quick video showing a couple of different ways I deal with swearing while editing a clients podcast.
1. If my client wants to keep it PG, I manually remove any nasty words. I make sure to clean up the edits so the audio sounds natural.
2. Some clients prefer having a sound effect to "bleep" out an odd f#ck or s#it. It can also form part of their sonic branding. In this case, I duck the original audio under a chosen sound effect. "Quack" in this example. Duck, quack...get it? 😀
3. F#ck that S#it! Sometimes, leaving them in is the way to go! I just tell my clients mot to forget to rate their show with an explicit warning when they publish their podcast.
There you have it!
Podcast editing is a crucial part of any successful podcast and should not be ignored.

I could do this with my eyes closed.
No, really, no joking.
The last couple of months, I've been editing my clients' podcasts with almost no eye sight. Nothing serious, but I will require surgery at the end of the month to correct my vision.
The reason why I've been able to continue working is because of my experience and the countless hours spent in the studio honing my skills as a musician, producer, and podcast editor.
Yes, editing, mixing, and mastering are skills that your average podcaster may not need.
But knowing what EQ settings to use, compression ratios, broadcast standards, noise canceling techniques, and all the things that go into making great sounding podcasts come from an experienced podcast editor.
After all, who needs eyes when your ears are perfectly fine! 😀
