n 2017, I was introduced to George Garrett through the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society, which champions the vision "A Ride for All Cancer Patients to Care." He lived up to that commitment by actively driving cancer patients, thereby connecting with those who needed him most.
The day I met George marked a pivotal change in my adult life for the better. Today, I proudly call this man my friend; he has been an inspiration, a leader, a mentor, and the most respectful person I have ever had the honor of working with. George worked tirelessly to support communities in need, always ready to help. He raised funds not only for the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society but also for local service clubs.
Despite facing his own battle with cancer, he continued volunteering his time with the VCDS and other community groups—a remarkable feat for a man nearing 90 years of age. George was a gentleman in every sense of the word, who, despite his personal cancer battle, remained true to his high standards as a human being.
I am going to miss my White Spot lunches with George, as will our little group—Larry, Orrie, and Dave. Knowing we will continue our lunches and friendships in his memory makes the sadness of losing George much easier to bear.
Rest Peacefully, George. I am going to miss you.
