Posted @withregram • @coffeewithgennyb Do you know what your hidden or natural talents are?
You know, the things you do that come so easily to you like your gift of gab or “blue sky” thinking, which is one of my talents!
In episode 20, @whofford a CliftonStrengths coach and trainer with the Gallup organization, explains what CliftonStrengths is, and how it can help you discover your talents so you can focus on reaching your full potential.
Wendy also shared that all it really needs is practice, patience, persistence, and intention in order to turn your talents into strengths.

Have you been able to gather as a group? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would love to know how are you feeling about that? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are gatherings as important to you as they are to me? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What do coffee and rehab centres have to do with each other? Keep reading… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For most people, coffee is that delicious cup in the morning. But for some people, coffee is a way of coping with life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Knowing that coffee is the mainstay for all rehab and addiction centres, Tom Hardern created “Baristas 4 Bruce”, with the help of a local supplier, and started selling coffee beans at local coffee shops and retailers. Tom pays for the coffee upfront and shares that it’s his contribution to the cause. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition to the coffee, he also sells jars of his “Bees 4 Bruce” honey. Tom donates 100% of all proceeds from the sale of coffee and honey to the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. His goal is to raise enough money to pay for a whole year’s supply of coffee.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you would like to support the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, visit one of the retailers mentioned in episode 18 and buy a bag of coffee or a jar of honey.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you agree this is a good cause, like and share this post! It's a great way to show Bruce your support! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Do you know what your “why” is?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let me know "yes" or "no" in the comments below. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Simon Sinek wrote the book, “Start with Why” and it made a huge impact on me. In fact, I ask my students in my classes at @uwinnipegpace to think about their “why”!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that very few people can identify their “why”? They can explain what they do (teach, write books), they can explain how they are different or better (teach special needs, write children’s books) but can they identify why they do what they do? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My “why” is making a difference in the world. It’s about inspiring me to continue doing what I love, and in doing so, it inspires those around me. It gives me a purpose, a goal if you will, to continue honing my craft, whether it’s teaching, recording episodes for my Coffee with Genny B podcast, or communicating my message to the world.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it all started with my love of reading.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you think about that “perfect cup of coffee”, chances are it’s because of the type of coffee beans that were used and how they were roasted!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When Colleen and Jay of @stonecitycoffeeroasters started their coffee roasting business and started to source their green beans, they looked for ones with a chocolate tasting note. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They then roast them to that specific profile to bring out those chocolate notes. According to Colleen, “it makes for a very smooth, clean cup of coffee” based on their roasting style.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When creating their blends, they taste different coffees every day to find the beans that will work the best for that blend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They mix the beans together and then roast them all at once. That’s their quality control; because they are such small batches, they have control over the process.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I asked Colleen where her inspiration for coffee comes from, she said it comes from her love of cooking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“You create delicious things in your dishes. And when it comes to coffee, you think about what would taste good together when you’re making a blend. You’re constantly critiquing it and trying it and thinking about what could make this even better.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There’s good customer service and then there’s exceptional customer service where customers are treated as valued guests! You can find that at all three locations of Harrisons Coffee Co: Johnston Terminal, Waterfront Drive, and the Outlet Collection Mall at Seasons of Tuxedo.
In episode 13, I chatted with Al Dawson, owner of Harrisons Coffee Co. Voted Roaster of the Year and Best New Coffee Shop in 2020, he has cultivated a culture of giving that starts with his “Manifesto”. It’s posted in all his cafes and on his website and represents the values of his organization such as being kind, leaving things better than when you found them and being part of the solution. It’s about being transparent and who they are as people.
We chatted about his coffees and the stories behind the names. For instance, “18” is named after the street number of his house. And “Bear Hug” was created in support of the Polar Bear Fund. Harrisons believes in giving back to the community so when Bear Hug was launched, $13 from each bag went to the Fund. And the giving continues today as $2 from each bag sold goes to the Fund.
When I asked Al about how important it is connecting over coffee, he said, “when you say to someone let’s go for coffee, what you’re really saying is that I want to spend time with you.” And that’s what it’s all about.
Listen to the episode to learn more about Harrisons and Al’s own coffee journey! And what are your values? Share in the comments below. ⤵️
In episode 11, I chatted with my friend @sarahikhan, owner of @Linchpinvirtual. A business coach/consultant with over 20 years experience and knowledge, Sarah works with entrepreneurs and offers them a “no BS” approach to finding the best solutions and helping them see results.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Friends for over 9 years, we chatted about our mutual love of coffee and Starbucks (of course!) ☕️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Calling herself an “accidental entrepreneur”, Sarah shared the importance of paying attention to whatever goal you want to achieve, trusting that it will happen when it happens, and that “a dream is never placed in your heart until you are fully capable of realizing it”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Do you know how the natural raw coffee beans turn it into your delicious cup of java? It’s all about the roasting process. Without coffee roasters, we wouldn’t have coffee, so they are a very important part of the coffee chain.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In episode 10, I spoke with Terry Masikewich, owner of Prairie Lily Coffee Roasters in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. A roaster for almost 5 years, Terry talked about the roasting process, light roast versus dark, and the difference between using washed beans versus unwashed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He also shared that the art of blending coffee is a science because you’re experimenting with different flavours and origins of coffee to get that perfect blend.✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We talked about our mutual love of espresso, and Terry shared his method of making the best espresso but you’ll have to listen to the episode to learn what that is!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Coffee...it’s not just for breakfast! ☕️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most of us only think of coffee in terms of that delicious morning cup with breakfast. However, coffee is such a versatile product, and in episode 009, I talk about using coffee in various recipes including my own for Tiramisu! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also talk about my favourite local Manitoba products such as popcorn, candles and body scrubs that contain either ground coffee, coffee oil or coffee grounds. And speaking of coffee grounds, I share a few tips of how you can use your coffee grounds instead of just throwing them in the garbage.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
