To the dads who broke the cycle.

To the dads who decided they wouldn’t continue the narcissim, addiction, infidelity or other things that have had strongholds in their families.

To the dads who rarely had anyone show up for them, but always show up for their kids.

To the dads who were met with shame but are now choosing to parent their own kids with grace.

To the dads who never had their dad around but are present as ever in their kid’s lives.

To the dads who were never taught how to, or were allowed to show emotion, but who have made space for their kids to be able to feel.

To the dads who love their family so well even though they didn’t recieve that kind of love.

To the cycle-breaking dads... thank you for giving your family a better life than you had.

You go against the odds, and the future generations will be greatly impacted because of it. Anyone can be a father; it takes a graceful one to be ‘a dad’.

മലകയറ്റം- രണ്ടാം ഭാഗം

ഗൾഫിലേക്ക് കപ്പൽ കയറി മദിരാശിയിൽ എത്തിയ നാടോടിക്കറ്റിലെ മോഹൻലാലിനെയും ശ്രീനിവാസനെയും പോലെ ഇളിഭ്യരായി നിന്നൂ ഞങ്ങൾ. ഇനി എന്ത് ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് ഞാനും അളിയനും മുഖത്തോടു മുഖം നോക്കി ഇരുന്നു ഗാഢമായി ആലോചിച്ചു.
ഒന്നുകിൽ ബസ് കയറി തൃശൂരിൽ എത്തി സ്‌പ്ലെൻഡർ ഉടമയെ കണ്ടു കാര്യം പറയാം; സ്റ്റെപ്പിനി താക്കോലുമായി തിരികെയെത്തി വണ്ടി കൊണ്ടുപോകാം. അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മലയാറ്റൂർ മല ഒന്നുകൂടി തിരികെ കയറി വിശ്രമിക്കാനിരുന്ന ഇടങ്ങളിൽ പരതിനോക്കാം, പക്ഷെ താക്കോൽ കിട്ടുമെന്ന് ഒരുറപ്പുമില്ല. ആദ്യത്തെ വഴി അഭിമാനികളായ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ‘ഈഗോ’പ്രശ്നമാണ്. ‘ഒരു താക്കോൽ പോലും സൂക്ഷിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്തവർ’, എന്ന് സ്‌പ്ലെൻഡർ മുതലാളി ഞങ്ങളെ ‘താഴ്ത്തി’ കണ്ടാലോ.. എന്നൊരു വൈക്ലബ്യം. അത് സത്യമാണെങ്കിലും, സമ്മതിച്ചു കൊടുക്കാൻ അഭിമാനം സമ്മതിക്കുന്നില്ല. രണ്ടാമത്തെ വഴി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്താൽ risk ആണ്. സമയം വേസ്റ്റ് ആണ്; താക്കോൽ കിട്ടുമെന്ന് ഒരുറപ്പുമില്ല.
വിശപ്പും ദാഹവും കൊണ്ട് ഒരടി മുൻപോട്ടു നടക്കാൻ ആവാത്ത വിധം ഞങ്ങൾ തളർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. തിരിച്ചു നടന്നു മല കയറുക എന്നത് Herculian ടാസ്ക് ആയി ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു.
എന്തായാലും വീട്ടിലേക്കു ഫോൺ വിളിച്ചു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ധർമ്മസങ്കടം അറിയിച്ചു. വീട്ടുകാർ ഒറ്റകെട്ടായി മത്സരിച്, കാണാതെ പോകുന്ന വസ്തുക്കൾ ഒക്കെ കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു തരുന്ന അന്തോണീസ് പുണ്യവാളനും, പിന്നെ ഏതൊക്കെയോ പുണ്യവാളന്മാർക്കും നേർച്ചനേരലും തുടങ്ങി. അവര് പറഞ്ഞു തരുന്ന ideas ഒക്കെ ഞങ്ങളെ കൂടുതൽ ആശയകുഴപ്പത്തിലാക്കി.

ഒരു അരമണിക്കൂർ ആലോചന കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോ അളിയൻ ഒന്നനങ്ങി:
“താഴത്തെ enquiry ഓഫിസിൽ ഒന്നന്വേഷിച്ചാലോ?; നിലത്തുകിടന്നു ഏതെങ്കിലും സുമനസുകൾക്കു നമ്മുടെ താക്കോൽ കിട്ടുകയും , അതവർ ഓഫേഴ്സിലേൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലോ?”
അവന്റെ straightforward thinking നെ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങൾ ഓഫിസിലെത്തി. അവിടുത്തെ ഓഫീസർ, ഒരു bucket താക്കോലുകൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് മുൻപിൽ കുടഞ്ഞിട്ടിട്ടു മൊഴിഞ്ഞു. “ ഇതെല്ലം ഇവിടെ വീണുകിട്ടിയ താക്കോൽക്കൂട്ടങ്ങൾ ആണ്. ഇപ്പറയുന്ന താക്കോൽ ഇതിലുണ്ടോയെന്നു നിങ്ങൾ തന്നെ കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചോളൂ.”
ഞെട്ടിപ്പോയി ഞങ്ങൾ!
അതിൽ “കുടുംബത്തിൽ പിറന്നത്” എന്ന് തോന്നിക്കുന്ന നാലോ , അഞ്ചോ എണ്ണം തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു കൊണ്ട് വന്നു, സർവ ദൈവങ്ങളെയും ധ്യാനിച്ച് കൊണ്ടും, ‘എങ്ങനെയെങ്കിലും ഒന്ന് അഡ്ജസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു തരണമെന്ന്’ splender സഖാവിനോട് ഭയഭക്തിയോടെ അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു കൊണ്ടും, ഒന്നൊന്നായി ഓരോ താക്കോലുകൾ ഇട്ടു വണ്ടി സ്റ്റാർട്ട് ആക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു. പക്ഷെ വണ്ടി നാലയലത്തു അടുക്കുന്നില്ല. മനസ് മടുത്ത അളിയൻ എന്നോട് ഒരു ചോദ്യം:
“ അല്ല ചേട്ടാ; നമുക്ക് ഒന്നൂടെ മോളിൽ കേറി ഒന്ന് അരിച്ചു പെറുക്കിയാലോ?”
“എന്നാ പിന്നങ്ങനെയാവട്ടെ” എന്ന് അതുകേട്ട പാടെ ഞാനും സമ്മതം മൂളി.

രണ്ടാം മലകയറ്റത്തിൽ ശരണം വിളികൾ ഒന്നുമുണ്ടായില്ല ; പതിനാലു സ്റ്റേഷനിലേക്കും ഞങ്ങളുടെ നോട്ടമെത്തിയില്ല; ഓരോ കാലടിയും അരിച്ചു പെറുക്കി സ്കാൻ ചെയ്തു ഞങ്ങൾ മലമുകളിൽ എത്തി. പള്ളിയകവും കുമ്പസാരക്കൂടിന്റെ പരിസരവും കാപ്പികടയുടെ ചുറ്റുവട്ടവും, നക്ഷത്രമെണ്ണി സ്വപ്‌നങ്ങൾ പങ്കിട്ടു മലർന്നു കിടന്ന പാറപ്പുറവും, എല്ലാം ഫോണിന്റെ ടോർച്ചുവെട്ടത്തിൽ അരിച്ചുപെറുക്കി നോക്കിയിട്ടും താക്കോൽ മാത്രം കണ്ടെത്താനായില്ല. നിരാശരായി വണ്ടിമുതലാളിക്കു മുൻപിൽ ഈഗോ പണയപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള തീരുമാനവുമായി ഞങ്ങൾ മലമുകളിൽ നിന്ന് താഴോട്ടിറക്കം തുടങ്ങി. ബസ് കയറി thrishoor പോയി, പിന്നെ തിരിച്ചുവന്നു, വണ്ടിയെടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോവാനും ഒക്കെ വരുന്ന സമയനഷ്ടത്തെ കുറിച്ചും, അസമയത് ബസ് കിട്ടുമോ എന്നുള്ള ആശങ്കയും എല്ലാം ആലോചിച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ വ്യാകുലരായി. അപ്പോഴും ഞങ്ങളുടെ നോട്ടം കാലടികളിലേക്കു തന്നെ.
പതിമൂന്നാം സ്ഥലം-“ നമ്മള് ചിലപ്പോ കൂടുതൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടാവും ചേട്ടാ. അതിന്റെ ശിക്ഷയാവും ..അതിന്റെ പരിഹാരം ആയിട്ടു ദൈവം ഈ സങ്കടം ഒക്കെ കണക്കുകൂട്ടിയാൽ മതിയായിരുന്നു.” എന്നൊക്കെ senti നിറഞ്ഞ ആത്മഗതം ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടാണ് അളിയന്റെ നടപ്പു. “അതെപ്പോഴാ അത്രയ്ക്കും പാപം ചെയ്തത്?”എന്ന കൺഫ്യൂഷനുമായി ഞാനും.
പന്ത്രണ്ടാം സ്ഥലം കഴിഞ്ഞു. കർത്താവു കുരിശിൽ കിടന്നു “എന്തുകൊണ് അങ്ങ് എന്ന് കൈവിട്ടു? എന്ന് പിതാവായ ദൈവത്തോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നതും മരിക്കുന്നതും ഒക്കെ കേൾക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ബാഗിലെ തുളയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ അശ്രദ്ധയും ഒക്കെ മറന്നു താക്കോൽ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതിന്റെ റെസ്പോണ്സിബിലിറ്റി ദൈവത്തിനു വിട്ടു കൊടുത്തു കൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങളും ചോദിച്ചു-“എന്ത് കൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങളെ കൈവിട്ടു?” എന്ന്.
പതിനൊന്നാം സ്ഥലം കഴിഞ്ഞു. യേശുവിന്റെ കൈകാലുകളിൽ ആണിയടിച്ചു കയറ്റുന്നു- ഞങ്ങടെ കൈകാലുകളും ഏതാണ്ട് അതെ ഫീലിങ്ങിൽ.
പത്താം സ്ഥലം കഴിഞ്ഞു -“ഓറേശ്ളേം നഗരിയിലെ സ്ത്രീകൾ യേശുവിനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിയ്ക്കാൻ എത്തുന്നു.” ഇവിടെ വീട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഫോൺവിളികൾ ഇടയ്ക്കിടയ്ക്ക് ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കാൻ എത്തുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഒൻപതാം സ്ഥലം:’ ഈശോ മൂന്നാം പ്രാവശ്യം നിലത്തു വീഴുന്നു’ …
എന്ന് പാരലൽ ആയി മുകളിലോട്ടു പോകുന്നവർ ചൊല്ലുന്നത് ഞങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുന്നുണ്ട്! അവരെ മുട്ടാതിരിക്കാൻ മാക്സിമം ഒതുങ്ങിക്കൊടുക്കവേ,
‌ അളിയന്റെ കാലടികളിൽ എന്തോ ഒന്ന് തടഞ്ഞു. കല്ലിൽ തട്ടിയപോലെ…. ‘കാലുമുറിഞ്ഞൊ?’ എന്നുചിന്തിച്ചു കുനിഞ്ഞ അവൻ ‘പരുക്കില്ല’ എന്നുറപ്പിച്ചു..കൂട്ടത്തിൽ യാദ്ര്ശ്ചികമായി കണ്മുന്നിൽ പാറകൾക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു ഇല കമഴ്ന്നു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു അത് പെറുക്കിയെടുത്തു. അതിനടിയിൽ എന്തോ ‘തിളക്കം’.. ‘അതാ ഒരു താക്കോൽ’ എന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. രണ്ടുകല്ലുകൾക്കിടയിൽ നിന്നും ആ കൊച്ചു താക്കോൽ പെറുക്കിയെടുത്തു. എന്നിട്ടു എന്റെ നേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞു.-“ “കണ്ടോ ചേട്ടാ , നമ്മുടെ പോലെ മറ്റേതോ മണ്ടന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്നും പോയ താക്കോല്.. എന്തായാലും ഇത് ഓഫിസിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചേക്കാം . ആർക്കെങ്കിലും എന്നെങ്കിലും ഉപകാരം ആയാലോ?”
“ശരിയാടാ മോനെ, എടുത്തോ”, എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു, ഞാൻ അവനെ തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കി. താക്കോൽ കണ്ണിൽ പെട്ടതും എന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ തൃശൂര്പൂരത്തിന്റെ മേളം കൊട്ടിയതും ഒരുമിച്ചായിരുന്നു. “ “എടാ മോനെ , ഇത് നമ്മുടെ താക്കോലാടാ” എന്ന് പരിസരം മറന്നു ഞാൻ ആർത്തുവിളിച്ചു. ഭക്ത്യാധിസരം പ്രാർത്ഥനയിൽ മുഴുകിയിരുന്നവർ distracted ആയി എന്തുപറ്റിയെന്നാരാഞ്ഞു. “കളഞ്ഞു പോയ താക്കോൽ കണ്ടുകിട്ടീ” എന്നും വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു ഞങ്ങൾ താഴേക്ക് കുതിച്ചു.
അന്തോണീസ് പുണ്യവാളനാണോ, മലമുകളിലെ തോമാശ്ലീഹയാണോ, അതോ വീട്ടിലിരിക്കുന്നവർ വിളിച്ചു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ച പരശ്ശതം പുണ്യവാളന്മാരാണോ, ഞങ്ങളുടെ ധര്മസങ്കടം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞതും അഭിമാനം കാത്തതും എന്നതൊന്നും ഞങ്ങൾക്കറിയില്ല. എന്തായാലും നേർച്ചകളൊക്കെ ഡ്യൂ വരുത്താതെ പിന്നീട് തീർത്തു.
ഈ അനുഭവം ഞങ്ങളെ പഠിപ്പിച്ച പാഠങ്ങളുണ്ട്. ജീവിതം മലകയറുന്നതിനു തുല്യമാണ്.
ജീവിതത്തിൽ വന്ന വഴിയേ തിരിച്ചുപോവേണ്ടി വരുന്നതും, ഒരു ലക്ഷ്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി പലതവണ ചില ശ്രമങ്ങൾ നടത്തേണ്ടി വരുന്നതും സ്വാഭാവികമാണ്. Ego ഒക്കെ മാറ്റിവച്ചു “തുടങ്ങിയിടത്തു നിന്നും വീണ്ടും തുടങ്ങുക” എന്നത് തന്നെ പ്രധാനം.അതല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നും ചെയ്യാനില്ല എന്നതാണ് സത്യം.

വലിയ ആഴ്ചയിലൂടെ കടന്നു പോകുമ്പോ രസകരമായ ഒരു നൂറു ഓർമ്മകൾ മനസ്സിൽ കടന്നു വരും. ചെറുപ്പകാലത്തെ കുർബാനയ്ക്കു സഹായിയായി നിന്നതും, ക്രിസ്തുമസിന് കരോൾ കൊണ്ട് നാട് മുഴുവൻ ഓടിനടന്നു ഘോഷിച്ചതും, ഉയിർപ്പു ഞായറിനു കർത്താവിനെ ഉയിർപ്പിക്കാൻ ഇടവകവികാരിക്കൊപ്പം പങ്കപ്പാട് കഴിച്ചതും എല്ലാം.
വിവാഹശേഷം തൃശൂരിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ സർവ്വമാന ത്രില്ലുകൾക്കും കട്ടക്ക് ഒപ്പം നിൽക്കുന്ന അളിയനോടൊപ്പം ദുഃഖവെള്ളി തലേന്ന് ഓർമ്മകൾ പങ്കുവെക്കുന്നതിനിടയിലാണ് ‘മല കയറാൻ പോയാലോ’ എന്നൊരാലോചന പൊന്തിവന്നത്. കൈക്കുഞ്ഞായ ആദ്യത്തെ കണ്മണിയെയും കൊണ്ട് മലകയറാൻ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടായതിനാൽ ഭാര്യ ആ സാഹസത്തിനില്ല. എനിക്കും അളിയനും മാത്രം തൃശൂർ നിന്നും മലയാട്ടൊരു വരെ പോവാൻ ഇരുചക്രവണ്ടി ധാരാളം. ഞാൻ എന്റെ സന്തതസഹചാരിയായ ബുള്ളറ്റ് ഭാര്യവീട്ടിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടുമില്ല.
അമ്മായിയപ്പന്റെ സുഹൃത്ത് വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ട് വന്നു വച്ച ഒരു സ്‌പ്ലെണ്ടർ വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്തിരുന്നു ചിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. സത്യത്തിൽ ആ സ്‌പ്ലെൻഡർ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു യാത്രയുടെ പ്രചോദനം. വണ്ടിയുടമസ്ഥനോട് ഫോണിൽ അനുവാദവും ചോദിച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു.ഒരു തോൾസഞ്ചിയിൽ തോർത്തുമുണ്ട്, കുടിവെള്ളം, പെൻടോർച്, ഇത്യാദി അത്യാവശ്യ സാധനങ്ങൾ ഒക്കെ നിറച്ചു തോളിലിട്ട് , മുണ്ടും കാഷായനിറത്തിലെ ജുബ്ബയുമൊക്കെയിട്ട്, ലക്ഷണമൊത്ത ഭക്തരായി ഞങ്ങൾ സ്പ്ളെൻറിൽ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. രാത്രി മല കയറാനാണ് ഉദ്ദേശം.

വണ്ടി സ്വസ്ഥമായി പാർക്ക് ചെയ്തു, അടിവാരത്തു നിന്നും “പൊന്നിന്കുരിശുമുത്തപ്പ..പൊന്മലകയറ്റം” എന്നുറക്കെ ശരണം വിളിച്ചും, ഓരോ സ്റ്റേഷൻ ഓഫ് ദി ക്രോസ്സിലും പ്രാർത്ഥനകൾ ചൊല്ലിയും ആഘോഷപൂർവം ഞങ്ങൾ പാതിരായ്ക്ക് മലയാറ്റൂർ മലയുടെ നെറുകയിൽ എത്തി. മേലോട്ട് കയറുന്നവരും താഴോട്ട് ഇറങ്ങുന്നവരും കൂടെ മലയിൽ അക്ഷരാർത്ഥത്തിൽ ഭക്തജനപ്രവാഹമാണ്. മുകളിലെത്തി കുമ്പസാരിച്ചു;കുർബാന കണ്ടു; കുറച്ചുനേരം വിശ്രമിച്ച ശേഷം ക്ഷീണമകറ്റാൻ കട്ടങ്കാപ്പിയും കുടിച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ ശരണം വിളിയോടെ തന്നെ മലയിറക്കവും തുടങ്ങി. തിരിച്ചു വണ്ടിക്കരികിലെത്തി, ബാഗിന്റെ പുറത്തെ കൊച്ചുകള്ളിയിൽ താക്കോലിനായി കയ്യിട്ടു പരത്തിനോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഞെട്ടലോടെ ഞങ്ങൾ ആ സത്യം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. ആ കള്ളിയിൽ താക്കോലില്ല, പകരം പുറത്തേക്കു നീണ്ടു വരുന്ന വിരലുകൾ..
“എന്റെ പൊന്നു തോമാശ്ലീഹായെ.. വണ്ടി ഉടമസ്ഥനോട് ഇനി എന്ത് മറുപടി പറയും? താക്കോൽ എവിടെ പോയി? ആയിരങ്ങൾ മേലോട്ടും താഴോട്ടും കയറിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ മലയുടെ ഏതു കോണിൽ നിന്നും താക്കോൽ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കും?”

⚡Teaming up with .ca as a media partner for a zero-emission vehicle awareness meetup happening on 23rd March '24 at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, Oakville, Ontario. ZEVAI is a non-profit community organization actively involved in the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI) project across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with partial funding from the Government of Canada. All are 🤗

Event Details:

Venue: Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, Oakville
Date & Time: March 23rd from 10 am to 1 pm ( Light lunch from 1 to 2pm)
Speakers:

Kenneth Bokor, creator, producer, and host of the EV Revolution Show, will do a presentation titled "EV-101 – Everything you wanted to know about EVs!"
Elder Garry Sault of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation will talk about environmental concerns
Crystal Rasa, Fulfilment Sourcing Manager at IKEA Canada, will talk about "IKEA's efforts to promote the adoption of ZEVs."
Gibi Varghese, Vice Principal at Erin Centre Middle School in Mississauga, will speak about "The Importance of educating students about Zero Emission Vehicles."
Tesla, Kia, and Nissan teams will be bringing their electric cars for a test drive at the event.

കരകാണാക്കടലിൽ വർഷങ്ങൾ ജോലിസംബന്ധമായി ചിലവഴിച്ച എന്റെ അപ്പൻ, മഹാബലിയെ പോലെ വർഷത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കലാണ് നാട്ടിലെത്താറ്. ലോകത്തിന്റെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും വാങ്ങി സൂക്ഷിച്ച മൂല്യമുള്ള പല വസ്തുക്കളും ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് സമ്മാനിച്ച് കൊണ്ടാണ്,
ഈ ചെറിയ കാലയളവിൽ അപ്പൻ ഞങ്ങൾ മക്കളോട് സ്നേഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുക. അപ്പന്റെ ത്യാഗത്തെയും സ്നേഹത്തെയും കുറിച്ചൊക്കെ ബോധമുണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും, കൗമാരകാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ എക്കാലത്തെയും യൂത്തന്മാരെ പോലെ എന്നെയും കൂടുതൽ ആകര്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നത് സമപ്രായക്കാരായ സഹപാഠികളുടെ സ്റ്റൈലിങ്ങൊക്കെയായിരുന്നു.

Engineering പഠിക്കാനായി അപ്പൻ എന്നെ Chennai ആണ് ചേർത്തത്. ആദ്യ വർഷം റാഗിംഗ് ഒക്കെ തകൃതിയായി ഉണ്ട്. കോളേജിനകത്തു മാത്രമല്ല; എവിടെ വച്ചും സീനിയർസ് ഒന്നാം വർഷക്കാരെ മര്യാദരാമന്മാരാകാനുള്ള പണിയുമായിട്ടിറങ്ങും. കുറച്ചുദിവസം അടുപ്പിച്ചുള്ള വെക്കേഷൻ വന്നപ്പോൾ, കോളേജിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു ബസ് ഏർപ്പാട് ചെയ്തു തന്നു; നാട്ടിലേക്ക് മലയാളികൾക്കെല്ലാം ഒരുമിച്ചു പോകാനായിട്ട് .കാരണം ട്രെയിനിൽ ഒക്കെ പോയി കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ എന്തായാലും സീനിയേഴ്സിന്‍റെ റാഗിംഗ് കിട്ടും. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാനും ഈ ബസ്സിൽ തന്നെ യാത്ര ചെയ്യാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അടിപൊളിയായിട്ട് നാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോണം. ഞാൻ ഡ്രസ്സ് എല്ലാം മാറി, ബസ്നടുത്തെത്തി. കൂട്ടുകാരുടെ കാലിലേക്ക് നോക്കിയപ്പോഴാണ് അവരുടെ കാലുകളിൽ , നല്ല നൈക്കിയുടെയും റീബോക്കിന്റെ ഒക്കെ ഷൂസ്. എൻറെ കാലിലെ സേഫ്റ്റി ഷൂ-വിനു ചന്തം പോരാ!. അപ്പൻ പ്ലസ് വൺ സമയത്ത് വിദേശത്തു നിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു സമ്മാനിച്ച ബ്രാൻഡഡ് ഐറ്റം, Nyke “തലയിൽ വച്ചാൽ പേനരിക്കും ; താഴെ വച്ചാൽ ഉറുമ്പരിക്കും” എന്ന് കരുതി ഭദ്രമായി കവർ ചെയ്തു മുറിയിലെ ജനാലക്കരികിൽ എടുത്തുവച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മുറിയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചോടി, . ‘കാവടിയാട്ടത്തിലെ’ ജഗതി നടക്കുന്ന പോലെ ആ ഷൂ വിട്ടു തിരിച്ചു വന്നു, നല്ല ഗമയ്ക്ക് കൂട്ടുകാരുടെമുന്നിൽ കൂടെ ഒരു നടപ്പ്..
വിധിയുടെ വിളയാട്ടം എന്നല്ലാതെ എന്തു പറയാനാ?.
നടന്ന് മുന്നോട്ട് ചെന്നപ്പോൾ, തലേന്ന് രാത്രിക്ക് പെയ്ത മഴവെള്ളത്തിൽ ചവിട്ടി, അടുത്ത സ്റ്റെപ്പ് വയ്ക്കുമ്പോഴേക്കും, ഷൂവിന്റെ സോൾ പിഞ്ഞി പൊളിഞ്ഞു പാളീസായി, ആത്മാവും,പരമാത്മാവും വേറിട്ടപോലെ എന്റെ കാലിൽ തൂങ്ങി കിടക്കുന്നു. ദീർഘനാൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കാതെ വച്ചിരുന്നതും, തുടർച്ചയായി വെയിൽ കൊണ്ടിരുന്നതുമാണ് കാരണം. വട്ടം കൂടി പൊട്ടിച്ചിരിച്ചു നിന്ന കൂട്ടുകാർക്കിടയിൽ ചമ്മി നിന്ന ഞാൻ, അഴകില്ലാത്ത ആ പഴയ സേഫ്റ്റി ഷൂ വീണ്ടും അണിഞ്ഞു വീട്ടിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

അവധി കഴിഞ്ഞ് മടങ്ങാനുള്ള ട്രെയിൻ ticket അപ്പനും അമ്മയും നേരത്തെ എടുത്തുവച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, വെയിറ്റിംഗ് ലിസ്റ്റിൽ ആയിരുന്നു എന്ന് മനസിലാക്കിയത് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷൻ ൽ വച്ച്. നേരെ ജനറൽ കമ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിലേക്ക്. നല്ല തിരക്ക്. . ഒരു ബാഗ് തോളത്തു തൂക്കി ഒറ്റക്കാലിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന എന്നെ നോക്കി, വാടിയ മുഖവുമായി അപ്പനും അമ്മയും കൈവീശി യാത്രപറഞ്ഞു. സേലം സ്റ്റേഷൻ കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് രണ്ട് കാലും മര്യാദയ്ക്ക് നിലത്ത് ചവിട്ടാൻ പറ്റി. കുറെ ദൂരം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ട്രെയിനിന്റെ ഫൂട്ട്ബോർഡ് ,”ഇവിടെയിരിക്കാം; ഇങ്ങോട്ടു വരൂ..” എന്ന് എന്നെ മാടിവിളിക്കുന്ന പോലെ. കുറച്ചു ദൂരം അങ്ങനെ ഫൂട്ട് ബോർഡിൽ കാറ്റേറ്റ് ഇരുന്നു യാത്ര ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ, ‘അലൈപായുതേ’ ഇലെ പാട്ട് മനസ്സിൽ വന്നു .ശാലിനിയും മാധവനും റൊമാൻറിക് ആയിട്ട് മുന്നിൽ നിന്ന് ആടികളിക്കുകയാണ്. പാട്ടിൽ ലയിച്ചു ചേർന്ന ഞാനും ,അറിയാണ്ട് ഒരു നിമിഷം എന്റെ കാലൊന്ന് നീട്ടി. എവിടെയോ എന്റെ കാല്‌, ഠപ്പേന്ന് ഇടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടതും, അതൊരു പോസ്റ്റ് ആണെന്ന് ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞതും, സ്വിച്ച് ഓഫ് ആയ പോലെ പാട്ടും പോയി; ഡാൻസും പോയി. ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് അത് ഞാൻ ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന സേഫ്റ്റി ഷൂവിന്റെ മെറ്റൽ ടോവിന്റെ ഭാഗത്ത് ആണ് തട്ടിയത് എന്ന് ആ ആധിക്കിടയിൽ ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു.
മറ്റേതെങ്കിലും ഷൂവാണ് അന്ന് ഞാൻ അണിഞ്ഞിരുന്നതെങ്കിൽ എന്റെ കാല്‌ ബാക്കിയുണ്ടാവില്ലായിരുന്നു. എത്ര ശ്രദ്ധാപൂർവം ആണ് എന്റെ അപ്പൻ എനിക്കായി ആ സേഫ്റ്റി ഷൂവ് മേടിച്ചുതന്നതു എന്ന് നന്ദിപൂർവം ഞാൻ ഓർക്കുന്നു. അത് പോലെ ചന്തമുള്ള ബ്രാൻഡഡ് ഷൂവിന്റെ സോള് കൃത്യസമയത്തു പൊളിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞു പോയതിന് ദൈവത്തിനും നന്ദി .
മറ്റൊരു കാര്യം കൂടി- ചിലപ്പോൾ കൂട്ടുകാരുടെ പരിഹാസചിരികൾ കാണാതിരിക്കണം; ജാടകളികളിൽ ഒന്നും വലിയ കാര്യമില്ല. ഇതും അന്ന് പഠിച്ച പാഠങ്ങളിൽ പെടും.

I work from the public library a lot these days. It is by far, my most productive place in Canada. You notice a lot of faces in the library. Here are a few I probably won’t forget anytime soon.

a) A group of senior women (assuming 75+ age) gathering at the library to play poker/cards
b) Specially abled individuals and their care takers spending time amongst books. They will mostly be seen moving through the aisles in a wheel chair with the caretaker showing them books of their choice. I have also seen caretakers reading books aloud to them. We all need to keep our minds running, ain’t we?
c) Adult groups from senior care homes, people with dementia, speech disorientation etc..taking some fresh air outside of their routine spaces.
d) Kids running around in the kids section with their moms, grannies or dads. Kids having their best time while the parents take a second to breathe.
e) Teens getting together to do assignments or homework
f) Aged couple (definitely both above 80+ years) who comes to the library everyday to read the newspaper; which probably is their daily routine. They come holding their hands and leave holding their hands. I love to see them everyday!
g) Care service providers meeting their clients, to know about their needs and requirements
h) Dads catching up to discuss the best universities to send their kids to
i) A young lady and her sugar daddy sitting beside each other in silence, caressing each other while being immersed in books. Their body language shows how intimate they are, yet the age gap makes it visible. Nobody really cares to stare though, unlike what I am used to in India. That is Canada for you - NonJudgemental.

I love the diversity I see here. I love the faces I see here. Doesn’t matter if you are black, white, brown, red or yellow skinned, everyone is deeply involved in their own world of gaining and sharing knowledge. ♥

ഇന്നലെ ശരത് പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു കാര്യം - എന്റെ ശരി മറ്റൊരുവന് ശരിയായി തോന്നണം എന്നില്ല. ഞാൻ കടന്നു പോയ സാഹചര്യത്തിലൂടെ അവൻ കടന്നു പോയാൽ മാത്രമേ എന്റെ ശരികൾ അവനു ശരിയായി തോന്നുള്ളു. ഈ പുതു വർഷം നമ്മുടെ ശരികളെ ഓർത്തു അഭിമാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു, സ്വന്തം സമാധാനവും സന്തോഷവും ആരോഗ്യവും ആണ് മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ മുൻ വിധികൾക്കും വലുത്, എന്ന് മനസിലാക്കി തല ഉയർത്തി ജീവിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കട്ടെ. In a house of chaos, with toys strewn in disarray,
Laundry piled high, awaiting a brighter day,
Plates unwashed, floors unswept, a sight to dismay,
Amidst this turmoil, love and laughter found their way.

My elder daughter, unwell, her appetite astray,
Yet I sat with my kids, to feed them, come what may,
In the heart of the mess, we found solace in our display,
For there, a tale of love and hope began to play.

I spoke of a sparrow, her home a charming mess,
Nurturing five little ones, both night and day,
In a cozy nest of twigs and leaves, where they'd laugh and play,
Each chick calling out, seeking the sparrow's tender care.

As I shared this story, emotions started to convey,
Young Noah, my dear son, in his wisdom uttered
"Sparrow's house may be messy but our house is a heaven,"
For in that poignant moment, all worries held at bay.

The mess, the untidiness, didn't matter, I could survey,
For my children felt the love, in every word I'd relay,
In their eyes, I glimpsed the truth, shining bright as day,
The love we share transcends, in its own magical array.

So, I continued with the tale, of the sparrow and her foray,
But in my heart, I held Noah's words, as they gently lay,
For within this messy haven, love blossomed in bouquet,
And I thanked the stars above, for this heavenly display.

As I watched my children, immersed in the story's embrace,
I realized what truly mattered was the time we spent each day,
In their hearts, our presence held the greatest influence,
For love and togetherness made our house a heaven in every way.
