Ottawa Kwanzaa -20 years of Excellence. - A teaser

It was a massive show of Excellence at the annual Ottawa Kwanzaa celebration on Saturday, December 30, at the Mosaic Conventional Centre. With over 300 people in attendance, the hall was filled with dancers, singers, poets, and the inspiring Keynote Speaker, Hon. Jean Augustine, Grenada-born politician and the first Black-Canadian woman to serve as a federal Minister of the Crown and Member of Parliament.
Also in attendance was Rawlson King, the first-ever Black Canadian city Councillor.
Iafricavoices was on location for the video coverage of the beautiful evening for Jaku Konbit.
The Ottawa Kwanzaa painted a vibrant picture of Unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith. These seven principles form the bedrock of this beautiful celebration, as the principles come alive in extraordinary ways. It was a great way to end 2023 and welcome the new year with love and Unity!
Kwanzaa is a non-religious cultural holiday celebrated worldwide from December 26 to January 1 of the New Year. The celebration promotes cultural pride and dignity and fosters a vibrant and healthy community.
There are seven principles highlighted during the season of Kwanzaa:
Umoja, Unity - to be unified as a diverse amalgamation of one people
Kujichagulia, Self Determination - to drive oneself to achieve one's goals
Ujima, Collective Work and Responsibility - to work for the community
Ujamaa, Cooperative Economics - to economically support each other
Nia, Purpose - to commit oneself to the betterment of our community
Kuumba, Creativity - to do whatever you can in the way you can
Imani, Faith - to believe in what you are doing and its outcome.
