-The Beast- By Author Tyler Moore

Late was the hour. It wasn't the fact that I was scared of what layed below. It was just the thought of the unknown. The full moon illuminated the house in the mountain side. The trees each having thoughts of their own, as they stood proudly in the rocky cliffs.

The howling wasn't stopping. I could hear from below, as it rattled my living room I was standing in. I walked out onto my front porch and proceeded to lower myself down in the elevator. It was a manual elevator which had a turn wheel to go up and down that you had to turn. It would always get stuck three fourths of the way of a turn before making a complete turn. My laturn lit the way.

I could see what looked like claw marks on the rock wall below my home. I peered over the edge. I was shook. My eyes caught a pair of red eyes looking up at me. It was the beast the townsfolk spoke of! I panicked as I started to reel myself back up. My laturn slipped from my hands, I watched as it went over the edge into the darkness. The beasts mouth was open jumping up trying to eat me whole. The laturn fell into its mouth. The beast let out a yelp. I turned the elevator turn wheel as fast as I could to go back up. The fire from the laturn must have hurt the beast. The red in its eyes glared at me piercing my soul. I was marked.

The beast would not rest until it had me. Luckily for me the full moon was on its final hour. I cranked the elevator wheel, one last time as the rope from above snapped and gave way. I was nearly there. I jumped for it. I dug my fingernails into my porch and climbed up, as I watched the elevator dangle. It swung back and forth with just the one rope on the left in tact. I peered over the edge as the red eyes studied the swinging pendulum elevator. Back and forth the eyes glowed watching it dangle.

The sun was beginning to rise. I was minutes from being safe. There was no possible way the beast could get me up here. I peered out beyond the mountain range as I watched the sunrise. The beast let out one last howl, as it shape-shifted back into a human.

"Father are you okay." I shouted down below the house.

A grunt let out followed by words forming, from what was the beast.

"I'm good, my boy. What terrible things did I do?. Replied the father that was once the beast.

"What's important is you're back now." I shouted.

He laid back on some rocks watching the sunrise with me. Our horror story was over....
Until the next full moon.
