Canada ends the policy of allowing visitors to apply for work permits from within the country.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller. Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Canada said it’s aware “that some bad actors were using the policy to mislead foreign nationals into working in Canada without authorization.”

Canada orders a third party to mediate a labor dispute between railways and employees.

A dispute between two major Canadian freight railways and their union is expected to come to a close soon as the country’s labor minister has ordered a third party to mediate.

Negotiations between Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), and the Teamsters labor union, began about a year ago but have been unsuccessful. The railways imposed lockouts on union employees Thursday as they threatened to strike.

Operation Zahara: one of Canada’s most notable combat missions in Afghanistan.

in 2006, Canadian Armed Forces launched a major effort to clear the Taliban from the Zhari District of Kandahar Province.

It was the opening phase of a larger struggle against insurgent forces in the area. It continued with a Canadian-led multinational offensive called Operation Medusa in September. Canadian soldiers took part in combat missions in Kandahar until July 2011.
