Just a comparison of noise reduction - the first is the original clip, the second, using the "AI" denoise software in Wondershare Filmora (whatever THAT is supposed to mean...) and then me with my bag 'o' tricks and skills. Just for fun it's a news segment about outraged parents finding out that Super Mario Bros 4 - Super Mario World needing a whole new console to play on. Sadly there was no clip of some lady forcing a SNES cart into a NES and breaking them both.
Good thing I have an active imagination.

So a few months back I was brainstorming ideas on what I can build with my 3d printer, and designed an old-style carbon microphone. Here are the results of the first iteration; it uses charcoal from aquarium filters to vibrate when spoken into, a piece of discarded packaging material which is most likely too thick for a proper diaphragm, and a 3v CR2032 battery to boost the signal. When carbon vibrates it creates a very small electrical charge, and so by having one electrode attached to the bottom of the mic case and the other at the opposite end only touching the diaphragm, a positive and negative signal is produced. It takes SO MUCH GAIN, and the slightest bump is catastrophically loud and so it must be shock mounted. I designed everything around parts I had, and what is available at home depot (the springs.) The battery is attached to the negative side and phantom power was too much. I ended up with the gain knob on my Focusrite Clarett preamp at 90% and also used a SE Electronics mic booster (the dynamite one.) i still boosted the volume in post.
The next version will use finer carbon that my daughter ground up with a mortar and pestle; if that one is better I already have some fine dust thanks to my coffee grinder (patooey.)
I found some video files I recorded a few years ago!
It's fixing noisy faders on a Behringer BCF2000, but the technique is pretty much universal.
