The '12 Short Stories’ series provides a chance to learn about various experiences within the Canadian Armed Forces and First Responder communities. These books provide an unprecedented opportunity to explore the diversity within these chosen professions by engaging with a full spectrum of those Canadians who tell their stories. They help us experience the awe, wonder, honour, service and sacrifice which is part of their daily lives.
The editors, David R. Lewis and Tina Renaud of Battle Rattle Press, are inviting thousands of people to share their stories, not only of themselves but the stories they remember being told by their grandparents or great grandparents. They selected 12 submitted stories in different categories that offer unique glimpses into the individuals' personal experiences, cultures and backgrounds.
This series intends to spotlight each individual's uniqueness within the commonality of a desire for service. Most of the contributors found individual ways of integrating their identities into their jobs. The 12 stories in each book provide very personal accounts of how each person integrates and incorporates a connection into the larger mission.
Reading these essays allows you to compare your own experiences and uniqueness with those of the authors: some may seem familiar, while others may strike you as strange or foreign, but all are captivating. Most important in exploring these anthologies is appreciating the diversity and the similarities of each of these Canadians. We seek to understand and honour the unique patchwork that makes up our truly Canadian quilt.
We invite you to submit your story to be part of this collection.
Some volumes already have a greater contribution that others, so we do urge you to submit your story, or at least advise us of your intention to do so.
