Instagram Reels is coming to the US in early August. 📲 Reels is a direct challenge to TikTok’s growing dominance. WDYT? Will you use the feature?!

☑️ Reels is not a standalone app; it's accessed as part of the main Instagram app
☑️ Very similar to TikTok, Instagram Reels allows users to create 15-second videos set to music or other audio, or use clips from other videos
☑️ Editing tools include a countdown timer to record hands-free, add AR effects, and speed up or slow down part of the video or audio
☑️ Instagram Explore will have a brand new discovery tab called Top Reels
☑️ Reels first launched in Brazil in November 2019 and is currently also being tested in France, Germany, and India

TikTok has been banned in India and there is talk of a possible ban in the US ... plausibly in the UK, too? These other countrywide bans may or may not happen. But, since the news of a possible ban in the US hit, other TikTok rivals got a boost in the charts, including Byte, Triller, Dubsmash, and Likee, for example. Snapchat also began testing TikTok-like navigation for its public video content, and YouTube is running a smaller test of its own. Hm! 😮📲

👉🏻 Facebook & Instagram have a history of adapting new features with success. As I'm sure everyone remembers, Instagram launched Stories in 2016 as a direct clone of Snapchat, and fairly quickly took a large section of Snapchat’s audience as a result.

In fact, Stories are so much a part of the Instagram experience now that Socialbakers data shows brands post more Stories than regular posts on the platform!! Could that be the future for Instagram Reels as well? Who knows?! It’s too early to say, but certainly feasible!!! 🤔
