On this day four years ago we launched Roqe Media! 💥 🎂
Our mission was to be a voice of and for the Iranian diaspora and to build a global audio-visual encyclopedia of Iranian diaspora identity…in English. We aimed to create a blueprint for something that had not existed (an English digital media network with an Iranian focus) and there were no shortage of people who warned us it would not be viable, and that finding an audience would be a challenge.
As of today we have created more than 350 shows, with millions of streams, a global audience, and the average consumption time on our podcasts is 71%.
We have remained committed to long-form interviews, in-depth content, diversity of guests, and a fierce independence that is not compromised by funding from any particular interest or party.
When we hit 100,000 streams after our first six months we were elated. But we knew that a startup has to grow exponentially. Today, across our platforms/programming - our regular Roqe podcasts, the Uprising series and essays, our documentaries, the Contemporary History of Iran, and more - we have reached almost 21,000,000 unique streams of our content. While the majority of our full downloads are still audio (primary podcast platforms - Apple, Spotify) we have an increasing footprint in video on Instagram and YouTube, and Telegram as well.
