April 14th - on this day in 2015, SpaceX launched the uncrewed CRS SpX-6 resupply mission to the International Space Station out of Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The flight was operated by Falcon 9 booster B1015 and Dragon C108, both making their first flight. The Dragon spacecraft was successfully launched to orbit and was berthed to the orbital outpost on April 17th.

The Falcon 9 first stage attempted a drone ship landing on the original "Just Read The Instructions". However, the center Merlin engine suffered a stuck valve. B1015 was unable to properly correct its velocity. It crashed onto the deck of the drone ship.

The picture shows the booster moments before impact.

NorthStar Chief Scientist for SSA, Frederic Pelletier, will participate on the Panel "Precision and accuracy in the evolution of STM" at the 10th Space Traffic Management Conference on February 27-28th in Austin, TX.

Fred will discuss the benefits of space based SSA including continuously surveying all near-earth orbits (LEO to GEO), reducing the current gap in geo-centric observability of the LEO regime, and, through a system of combined systems, developing space domain awareness with “eye on target” at all times.

Precise and accurate information provided by space based SSA sensors will play a pivotal role towards establishing a framework for Space Traffic Management.

February 17th - on this day in 2007, a United Launch Alliance Delta II 7925-10C rocket launched NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) mission from Space Launch Complex 17B at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

THEMIS consists of five individual, 126 kg satellites built by Swales Aerospace. Each is equipped with a fluxgate magnetometer (FGM), an electrostatic analyzer (ESA), a solid state telescope (SST), a search-coil magnetometer (SCM) and an electric field instrument (EFI). Their mission is to study magnetospheric substorms.

In 2011, two of the spacecraft were moved to Lunar orbits and were renamed ARTEMIS (not to be confused with NASA Artemis), which is an acronym for Acceleration, Reconnection, Turbulence and Electrodynamics of the Moon's Interaction with the Sun.

Originally intended for two years of operations, the THEMIS and ARTEMIS missions continue to operate.
