A few days ago I facilitated a session to help the Team at Waterloo University measure the impact of their activities. The team told me they felt “invigorated,” “enthusiastic” and “curious” at the end of the session. Upon reflection a few key things stood out to me as well:
1. As a facilitator the best feeling is knowing your session design has worked, when you get to witness your clients’ “aha moments” during the session
2. Everyone is in a better mood when there’s food
3. The toughest challenge when measuring impact is getting people to be honest about how they feel now vs. how they felt then
4. And of course the obvious: Data is irrelevant without context and benchmarks
I was honoured to work with this group, and to know that this approach to measuring impact AND meaning will lead to real results in project planning and success related to .
