The pod is back!!!!!
Tonight I chat with Cheryl Beemer.

Cheryl knows the history of our collective agreement and how austerity has effected the nursing profession. She was a council member at CNO for 9 years and Committee for 6 years. Was on the registration committee for several years which was responsible for registering Internationally educated nurses. Cheryl added many things to the agenda while on council such as Including Refusing an assignment in 2003 during sars, and nurse patient ratios 2017 or 2018. Cheryl was part of rnao bpg workload and staffing. There are many recommendations in the 2nd edition that employers should use. Oh… and we will probably touch on this catastrophic mess we are in.

🚨📢🚨📢🚨📢🚨📢

Sylvia Jones blamed nurses taking vacation for the shortage today. Nurses (many not all) have had a week off during the summer for a long time now and never have there been 25 emergency rooms closed so pretty sure that isn’t the issue.
Thanks for voting Ontario…

https://globalnews.ca/news/9045197/ontario-health-systemp-not-unprecedented/

Sylvia Jones made the comments as the legislature resumed Monday and says the government is working to ensure residents have a sufficiently staffed local hospital available.

I feel like I’m screaming at a brick wall.
Rural ERs are closing and now an inner city Ottawa hospital is firing their flare.

All politics aside. If you are injured or sick… any signs of a stroke or heart attack PLEASE do not delay and please head to the nearest (open) emergency room. Our triage skills are impeccable and emergencies will be seen immediately.

An excellent article by a Toronto Emergency Room physician. The system is no longer collapsing. It has collapsed. Those of us left are trying to pick up the pieces but with every wave of covid, more of us leave.

Dr. Kashif Pirzada has worked in ERs for 15 years and is witnessing the damage from overcrowding and understaffing. “Patients are extremely upset, and I would be too.”

Another one….
If only people cared half as much about emergency rooms closing as they do about losing their luggage and raised as much of a fuss we may actually get somewhere.
I’m not trying to hate on the travellers, I’m a huge traveller but travelling = a privilege. Open emergency rooms = a necessity.
Do me a favour friends, if you’ve spent 6 hours on the phone to air Canada and made a FB post updating people on your travel disruptions, maybe take a min to advocate for your healthcare. You’ll be fine if your flip flops don’t make it to Barcelona but people will not be and are not fine with ER closures

segment from last night made national news. The nursing shortage and ED wait times is a national issue and there are calls for to step in. I don’t know what he’s gonna do but it can’t be any worse than what’s happening now.

19/06/2022

Today I talked to about the nursing shortage, bill 124 and my fears as a mom with a kid who has recently been really ill. If Hunter has a post op complication, will we get a bed? This effects every single person.

17/06/2022

I’ve been hesitant to post this because it’s a bit raw and I’m showing my feels but I think it’s an important message.
Your words in 30 seconds can be someone’s last straw.
Your eye roll can result in a resignation letter. Right now it doesn’t take much for us healthcare workers to snap.
It’s important we find a way to deal with the stress and the work load and that way can’t be taking it out on our peers. Displaced anger isn’t the answer.

This is quite a story. Trigger warning 🚨 Su***de attempts.Stay turned for release. Hoping to have it out Monday.

I’m not “just a nurse.” I am your eyes, your ears, and your voice when you’re not able.

I’m someone’s family when they can’t be there to do it themselves. I have often been the last person to hold someone’s hand alive, then have to put that person in a body bag and within the hour be expected to turn that off and pick up a new admission…. and to not complain about doing so.

I am a punching bag…literally and figuratively. I take verbal abuse daily. I’ve been hit, kicked, spat at and called the worst names you can imagine.

I am your advocate…all day every day, and I often have a say in making sure my patients are getting the care they deserve. I will argue with every surgeon, many who will read this post, and I will fight until you get what you need… respectful 😉

Our fight against Bill 124 started as us wanting to be allowed to negotiate fairly and be adequately compensated for what we do.
Our fight now is making sure we can offer nurses enough of an incentive to continue working… and it’s not a $5000 bonus taxed at 40%.

You will need a nurse one day in some capacity. You will need healthcare in some form.

We want to take care of you. I’m asking you Ontario, tomorrow, can you take care of us?

Vote accordingly

Sincerely,
Ontario_RN

The Meg Foundation was founded by Dr. Jody Thomas. At Meg Foundation, they have created science- backed practice to manage needle anxiety and other practices to cope with pain in children when it comes to medical procedures. Jody and I discuss coping with painful procedures providing mental and physical tools. We discuss needle anxiety, how to talk to children and the transition when children change from a child to adult centred care.

Vote accordingly. At this point the only way to remove Ford is looking like it’s going to be a liberal vote. I’ll still love ya if you vote another way, however, whoever complains to me about healthcare over the next 4 year will be asked who they voted for before you get my ears and a conversation.

🚨 If you are working June 2 your employer MUST give you 3 hours to go vote.
