Happy hosted by the one and only

Today as I was cleaning out the office in preparation for our move, I needed some synth wave instrumentals that reminded me of the 1980s. What better album than the one that started it all, Stranger Things, Vol 1, from the first season.

It's haunting, eerie, and overall, one heck of an album that really puts you in a time capsule while you visit Hawkins, Indiana. Just one of those must have albums.

Heck this limited edition is variant is called, Upside Down Inter-Dimensional Blue. Thanks Amazon for coming through a few years ago so I could pick this one up.

The question is, do you enjoy Stranger Things? Who's you favorite character?

Thursday night spins on Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

In the 80s there were many Canadian rock artists but Bryan Adams is probably the most recognizable after Rush.

As a kid I recall having his, So Far So Good greatest hits album on CD. We'd play it on practically every road trip then. When I started collecting vinyl, I promised myself that I'd pick up any albums by Bryan Adams. This was the first one I found and since I have added 2 more.

This was Bryan Adam's third studio album released in 1983 and peaked at number 8 in the Billboard charts. The success of the album turned into a world tour due to the overwhelming success.

This album was also responsible for putting him on the music map in the US. This would pay dividends further down the road when he would start delving into soundtracks.

Do you have a favorite Bryan Adams song?

More sweet underground, podcast format vox + stix:

🚨!!!NEW vox + stix PROJECT!!! 🚨

So the response to my lives on Saturday about indies and not getting caught up in the numbers has been so incredible, I feel like it must have met a need. And you know I’m all about meeting this community’s needs. So we’ve decided to shelve our relationship podcast for the time being and instead start one devoted to conversations and advice around being an indie musician, what that means and takes, and what it doesn’t!

It’ll be a short show (well, for us, at least!) of 30-60 minutes, either weekly or bimonthly depending on interest. Sometimes it’ll just be me, sometimes Greg and me, and sometimes we’ll have guests. Topics will include getting your music heard, the state of the industry, streaming platforms and social media, AI, mental health and music, what works for indies and what doesn’t, and more. We’ll also be taking requests for show topics from all of you.

I’d be really grateful if you could help us build and reach more musicians. Please like and follow us at Inside Indies and please share the page if you think anyone you know would benefit. We really want to make sure this community is covered as well as we can and hope this podcast will help “keep the underground grounded.” ❤️

Vacation picks on Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

Day 3 of my mini vacation is brought to you by Jimmy Buffett.

Contrary to popular belief, Margaritaville, was not Jimmy's first song on his first album. Granted it was the song that really put him on the map in terms of music. It also marked a change of music from mainly country to the sound most Parrotheads are familiar with, his easy listening and Caribbean music.

This album always helps me relax and just chill. It contains my mom's favorite Jimmy Buffett song, Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude. This was a song we'd sing along to in the car many of times. A perfect song for a lazy Tuesday.

Today's choice album on Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

Hair Metal Monday calls for Def Leppard...

In 1980 a brand new band hit the English rock scene and took it by storm. Outside of the UK it was barely noticed but within the UK it helped change the growing musical landscape.

Interestingly enough, the singles for, Wasted and Hello America, were two different recordings for the studio albums and their single.

This album would finally pick up steam after the band hit mainstream success after a few later albums were released. It would go platinum 9 years after the initial release.

Folk music done retro on Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

Some albums can't wait for ... And this one is by far one of the most far out in my collection. I've already prepped and gave him an idea of what this latest addition is.

So without further ado, let me show you an ancient twist on folk music.
-----
In 1978 the hosted the King Tutankhamun Exhibit from July 15th - November 15th. They recruited Ali Racy to compose the ambient music to the exhibit. Racy was a professor at the University of Washington, where he specialized in Ethnomusicology.

This album features only traditional Near Eastern musical instruments. This was done to replicate the feel of ancient Egyptian music.

The album was heavily inspired by the artifacts on display, mainly by the religious symbolism of the, Book of the Dead. On August 3rd, the Christian Science Monitor deemed it to be 'haunting and meditative'.

For my review, this album is beautifully done. It captures the entire essence of the exhibit in melodic tones mixed with a mysterious twist. Racy totally out does himself here.

If you have a chance to either listen to this, or own the vinyl, please do.

Interesting Reader's Digest crate review over at Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

Interesting Reader's Digest crate review over at Vinyl Grooves and Brews:

Reader's Digest released vinyl? Yup... Even got the orginal certificate of authenticity to prove it.

Starting in 1959, they decided to expand their offerings from the traditional 30 article per magazine to delve into the growing vinyl craze. Chances are they wanted someone to play this music as they read. Can't say for certain but I'm almost positive my grandparents did just this in the early 60s.

This album is a 10 LP Box Set that focuses on the light classical music in history. Ranging from Berlioz to Tchaikovsky, this box set has it all. Who needs to go to the concert hall when Reader's Digest brings it to you in the comfort of your own home.

So sit back and enjoy the music while dinner is in the oven. After a long day in the office and being a participant of the 'Rat Race' nothing gets better.

A classical piano player at the core, A.i. has evolved his music into a 'haunting walk through the gloom'. In his reconstruction of what classical music could be, the juxtaposition of electronic dreamscapes and acoustic elements make it a unique experience.
