BUT if you swiped hoping your business was going to make the list, we need to talk.

Your business might run on referrals, have repeat customers, or be booked solid right now. You might even think, “Our customers don’t really use social media.”

They do, and when someone hears about your business, there’s a pretty good chance they’re going to look you up before they call, visit, book or buy.

Social media means that you’re visible when people go looking for you.

If you’ve been telling yourself your business doesn’t really need social media, it might be time to rethink that.

How do we all *really* feel about Instagram’s new logo?

Brands don’t exist in a time capsule.

The people who follow them change, culture changes, design changes, behaviours change, and eventually even the most recognizable brands have to decide what parts of their identity are worth holding onto and what needs room to evolve.

Instagram just gave us a VERY good excuse to talk about it, ask deeper questions, and have a little fun with our own brand (even though we’re just a little baby brand compared to Instagram lol).

When I started Picnic Social Media Company, all I wanted to do was help local businesses show up online in a way that actually FELT like them.

Lately, I've been watching more and more business owners turn to AI to create their graphics and I completely understand why. It's fast, accessible, and incredibly useful, but I've also noticed something else that makes my heart hurt a little.

Everything. Is. Starting. To. Look. The. Same.

I am screaming, crying, begging you to remember that the businesses who stand out aren't necessarily the ones posting the most. They're the ones whose branding is consistent enough that you recognize them instantly.

I've been playing with the idea of Picnic Table Sessions for a while now - workshops to help the doers of local businesses - and this feels like the right topic to kick things off with!

I'm opening the doors to my first small-group workshop (max of 4 people per session) to teach you how to use Canva more intentionally, build a stronger brand, and create graphics that feel like they should.

No design experience required. Just bring your laptop with Canva setup, your business or brand, and a willingness to learn.

We realize the irony of using a trend to tell you not to blindly follow trends, but that's kinda the point.⁠

Instead of asking "What's trending right now?", the better question is "Does this trend fit my business?"⁠
⁠
If there's one thing when it comes to social media that we're standing ten toes down on, it's that not every trend deserves a place on your page.⁠
⁠
We jumped on this trend because it supports the message we're trying to share - that the trend isn't the strategy, it's simply the vehicle.⁠
⁠
The brands people remember most are the ones who know exactly who they are.⁠
⁠
If a trend helps tell your story better, use it. If it doesn't, let it go ✌️

One of my FAV parts about where we call home is being surrounded by other hardworking local business owners every day.

We celebrate each other’s wins, share ideas, cheer each other on, and occasionally become the victims of each other’s social media content (thanks y’all).

While this reel may suggest otherwise, the truth is that every business in this space brings something unique to the table, and we’re lucky to work alongside people who genuinely want to see one another succeed.

To the businesses we missed in this one … we know you’re out there working hard too, we just couldn’t chase you down for an interview.

We actually *do* only have one slot available, because we keep our team small and mighty. Could we hire a bunch of people and take on more clients? Sure, but that would mean higher overhead, higher prices, and a very different experience than the one we’ve worked hard to build.
