A small rimless nano planted tank is among the favorite among beginners as well as the seasoned hobbyists. But, scaping amd maintaining such set up is not an easy task. With limited volume of water , chances of mistakes are high. For a successful nano planted tano venture I suggest following things.

Light - Keep ur light intensity from medium to low ( below 10 to 12 LSI - Lumens Per Square Inch ) at surface. With medium to low light it is far easier to manage algae and chances of turning your tank into an algae box overnight is far less in compare to a high light set up.

Plants & substrate - Substrate is the most important factor in a planted tank . But, surprisingly the tank in picture doesn't even have any substrate. Astonishing revelation right ? In this particular case we enjoy the simplicity of Epiphytic plants like moss , fern , anubias & bucephalandra which don't rely on substrate for nutrients and can thrive if tied with a driftwood or rock. These plants can take up nutrients from water column readily.

Fertilizer - As this set up doesn't have substrate , hence it relies heavily on external fertilizers. I prefer to dose KNO3 , KH2PO4 , K2SO4 & Micro ferts on regular basis along with a large 60% to 70% water change at weekend to reset nutrients parameter at water column.

CO2 - I inject pressurized CO2 in this planted tank using inline defuser which is connected to it's small canister filter. In my opinion CO2 injection in planted tank is necessary to unleash the lush beauty of plants' growth. A planted tank without co2 is possible , but you might have to wait longer and you may not even achieve the lush green fulfilling look. I prefer to inject co2 along with regular daily dosing of seachem excel. I want to ensure in my planted tank CO2 or carbon is not the limiting factor for plants' growth.
