Found in the jungles of Southeast Asia, on islands like Borneo, Sumatra and Malay, feeding on the forest floors is a truly remarkable species of bird.

With males measuring up to 2m in length, they are one one of the largest pheasants in the world.

And yes, of course they dance!

For mating, he clears a patch of forest to create his dancing ground. After attracting a female with his loud calls, he dances before her, spreading his wings into giant fan shapes to reveal hundred of flashy eye-like shapes on his feathers.

Sometimes I see these things that nature creates and cant even comprehend how. Eyes on birds and butterflies have always been my biggest hangup. It makes me feel like nature is doing things we cant possibly comprehend.

This is a perfect example of that.

I'm never ready for the beginning of september. Although I must say, it seems like this will be a pretty epic one this year!

There is something so nostalgic about ladybugs.

Even as a child they were one of the only insects that didnt frighten me. The brilliant colour and almost junevile-style polka dots, it's no wonder these little bugs make people so happy. Even the way they move is cute!

This amazing species showed me the incredible microscopic world that surrounds us all everyday.

This amazing structure is the home of a cliff swallow where is shelters its young.

Cliff swallows build their nest by placing pellets of mud together lined with grass and feathers to add comfort and warmth for their eggs and young.

It's truly amazing how animals create such amazing variety of homes for them and their families.

Gaillardia aristata 🌻 great blanket flower.

They may be common but they sure are beautiful. Their common name of 'blanket flower' refers to their resemblance to brightly coloured blankets made by native americans.

Excellent for pollinators and drought tolerant, these bad boys are a short lived powerhouse!

I often wonder why people don't think of plants when speaking about wildlife. They are so crucial to healthy ecosystems we litterally couldnt live with out them.

What's your favourite native plant species?

I am so incredibly grateful to for taking me to the island to help monitor and photograph these incredibly endangered litte birds.

Piping plovers have faces countless hardships due to human activity in coastal areas such as beaches and sandy shores.

With countless efforts of scientist and dedicated advocates, they have slowly been returning to ontario to breed over the last 15 years after an over 30 year absence. With only a few mating pairs here, they desperately need our attention to save them.

These little babies are being closely monitored to ensure they can safely get strong enough to migrate south .

Remember to keep your beaches clean, and always be aware of what native species to look out for! We all need to come together to be more conscious of our actions to ensure that species like this are able to live and thrive in the future.

I can't even fathom how many species surround me going completely unnoticed by myself and others. This is a prime example. A bird I've seen countless times fishing near my home. An animal I am so familiar with yet know absolutely nothing about. Thing like these make me so grateful for my lens and what it can show me.

Archeology is such an interesting discipline. Studying artifacats that are nothing less than pieces of human history. Time capsules of ancient civilizations that tell stories about how people one lives and interacted with the environments around them.

We were lucky enough to speak to some amazing archeologists and learn a little more about their work and some of things they focus on with their work.

Dr. Craig Cippola spoke to us about the repatriation of artifacts. How pieces of cultural significance have made their ways into museums and collections without the approval or sometimes even without their knowledge. These artifacts have a unique connection with the cultures they hail from and are an essential part of the cultural heritage of an area.

It's a crucial part of archaeological research that artifacts removed from their homeland are returned to the people they should belong to.

It wasn't long before I knew I loved mammals. As the largest order they range from the largest of the animal kingdom to some of the smallest. Flying, walking, swimming, mammals cross cover a diverse arrays of wildlife species including some of my favourites like Whales, Elephants, Bats and Beavers. It's easy to forget how incredibly diverse mammals are.

Getting a change to visit the ROM's back of house mammalogy collection was definitely an unforgettable experience. There is something quite macabre about walking through rooms of skins, mounted heads or antlers and bones, but each piece had a story to tell...

Stories of humans killing animals for trophies and sport, as a symbol of their wealth and superiority to all beings. I have to admit having experienced a smug sensation learning about how these pieces had been seized, never to be returned. These pieces can now be stored with respect, to be used to learn more about these beautiful creatures and how we can protect them.

From learning about bats and their contribution to Covid-19 research, to getting up close and personal with Whale bones, needless to say... I loved every minute of it!

Oh canada our home and......
This is not our native land.

Something we often ignore and take for granted. Especially when it comes to the environment.

Indigenous perspectives and beliefs have always prioritized the protection of the environment. It makes me sad to think how things would be different if canada wasnt ruled by colonial ideals. Would we be taking so much without giving back? Would we be in the state we are in right now?

One thing I have learnt about indigenous beliefs is it is generally understood that everything is connected, nothing(including humans) is superior to the rest. This is something I think about often, and I think you should to.

As humans we have navigated this planet as if everything we touch exists to serve to our desires and needs. We have neglected the care needed to maintain our natural world and we can't ignore it any longer.

This 'canada day,' I will not be celebrating the erasure of native cultures in this country. I will be giving thanks to the land, the water and the sky. I will question what I have learned about the lands I call home and appreciate the gifts this land has given me and reflect on what I can give back.

If dont already know, in may I returned to school to study environmental visual communication at the

'Environmental visual communication, what the hell does that mean?' A question I've been asked countless times since starting this journey.

Well, let me tell you what it means to me.

Environmental visual communication is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between science and public education. It is a chance to enlighten people to the impact of our ways and the marvels of our natural world. Relieving the weight of the world from the shoulders of sciencists and letting them focus on what they do best.

EVC, to me, is much more than just a perfect combination of my biggest passions. It is, what I believe, could change the way people view, interact with and protect the environment.
