Meet Luke, a talented jazz pianist. He had built a reputation not only for his musical talent, but also for his inspiring story of sobriety, having overcome an alcohol addiction 25 years ago. But then, out of the blue, he got a DUI despite claiming that he hadn’t had a drop of alcohol. Afterwards, he started showing up to the emergency department with obvious signs of alcohol intoxication… still claiming he hadn’t been drinking. So was he lying? Or was something else going on?

This video captures my thoughts and experiences in July 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

From working in the ER department, caring for critically ill patients in the ICU, getting sick with COVID myself, finally get vaccinated and now giving out vaccinations. It feels like a surreal experience.

A big part of the way I process emotions is by talking about them - so this video is more like a diary, and a way for me to create a narrative about the last 1.5 years. Hopefully it will give you some insight into my experience as a doctor during the pandemic.

Meet Nancy, a woman who decided to improve her diet. She’d fallen into a habit of snacking on chips in the evening, so she decided to swap out the chips for a healthier option. But little did she know, her choice of snack would cause her kidneys to start shutting down, and affect the rest of her life!

Please do not leave this video thinking you need to cut out all high-oxalate foods from your diet. You really only need to focus on limiting them in your diet if you have a medical condition that makes it necessary, like Nancy!
Instead, eat a balanced diet with enough calcium and drink plenty of water to prevent kidney stones. Fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts are healthy! They’re packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber that you need… so don’t write them off because they contain some oxalates!
