According to a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) news release issued Friday, Director Joseph Martino found no reasonable grounds that either officer acted unlawfully when they confronted and shot the 27-year-old man near William G. Davis Jr. Public School on May 26.

"As such, there was no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case," the news release reads. "The file has been closed."

A 17-year-old boy has died following a shooting in Scarborough Wednesday afternoon, Toronto police say.

Emergency services responded to the shooting in the area of Gilder Drive and Eglinton Avenue East just before 3:45 p.m. Police say officers found the boy with multiple gunshot wounds. Toronto paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a trauma centre where he died.

A 28-year-old man is facing charges of first-degree murder after his parents were found dead inside an Etobicoke apartment early Wednesday.

Bill and Charles Steele, from Port Colborne, Ontario, are brothers who haven't spoken to each other in 30 years, and this fall they'll be fighting each other in the race for mayor.

Mayor Bill Steele won election in 2018 and he and brother Charles are the only two candidates in the running.

They will face each other in the upcoming municipal elections on October 24.

Members of the Iranian community in Toronto are taking a stand against what they say is the world's silence following the death of a 22-year-old woman in Iran after she was detained by the morality police.

Mahsa Amini was arrested in Iran on Sept. 13 after police reportedly took issue with her hijab, a headscarf that Iran's morality police requires all women, regardless of nationality or religious belief, to wear.

She died three days later.

A new poll suggests Canadians still believe Justin Trudeau is still the best man for the job of prime minister -- but he has only a slight lead over new Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
Leger has released the findings of an online survey conducted from Sept.16 to Sept.18 with 1,522 respondents.

The results come 10 days after Poilievre's landslide victory in the Conservative leadership race, which many Tories hope signals the beginning of a unified Conservative party.
