โœจ We are thrilled to announce that our January 2023 exhibition ๐˜›๐˜๐˜Œ ๐˜Š๐˜–๐˜œ๐˜•๐˜›๐˜Œ๐˜™/๐˜š๐˜Œ๐˜“๐˜ curated by Mona Filip has been shortlisted for Exhibition of the Year (Budget under $20,000) in the 2023 GOG Awards (Galeries Ontario / Ontario Galleries).

Navigating the complexities of selfhood, agency, and representation, ๐˜›๐˜๐˜Œ ๐˜Š๐˜–๐˜œ๐˜•๐˜›๐˜Œ๐˜™/๐˜š๐˜Œ๐˜“๐˜ brings together a group of artists who create and embody imaginative alter egos to examine, perform and subvert identity constructs and politics. Through the use of make-up and elaborate costumes, 2Fik, Helio Eudoro, Julius Poncelet Manapul, Meryl McMaster, Sasha Shevchenko, Adrian Stimson, Stacey Tyrell, Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory and Jamie Griffiths transform their own appearance and stage layered photographic, video, mixed media, and sculptural scenes that destabilize viewersโ€™ presumed realities and points of reference to expose prejudices with regards to gender, race, ethnicity, and nationhood.

Please join us in congratulating curator Mona Filip, this incredible lineup of artists and all involved! ๐Ÿ‘

Artist statement

NEW VARIATIONS OF COLOUR โ€“ JEANNETTE PERREAULT
โ€œThrough my painting I express my perception of the present. The timelessness of the present. How a memory can be alive, with all the emotion and colour of a precise moment. I take pleasure in capturing the atmosphere of a cafรฉ in Paris, the light on the terrace of a house in Venice, or even through the window, a snowy street in Montreal. As well as, smaller moments like a book left on the table, some fruit, a glass of wine, flowers, and the summer. All these little things, these details of everyday life which make up the reality, the beauty of our existence. Finally, all these compositions, these drawings that inhabit me, led me to explore new variations of colour for this exhibition.โ€
