Since we are based in a theatre town, we are watching the trends very carefully. Some are more comfy with crowds than others right from the start but book signings, poetry readings and launches have mostly been virtual until now. Could this be a way back?

I don't know about you but I still have a hard time concentrating on dense text. Something about a year and a half of stress and brain fog has slowed my focus. So I have turned to YA novels that keep me engaged and thinking but often have clearer story lines. We are always encouraging authors to post their own writing on Goodreads and to use their literary knowledge to review great reads for others. Ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer, right?

Maybe not...apparently deep in human psychology is the impulse to correct errors.

This interviewing technique opens up your subject and allows them to take the reins.

Next time I’m interviewing an engineer, perhaps I need to ask “so that means you know a lot about engines, right?”

Yesterday's (shouldn't have been historic but it was) decision wouldn't have happened unless one teenager had the guts, temerity and forethought to record a video that is burned in our minds. A teenager. A seventeen year old belonging to the most underappreciated age group of humans stood her ground, overcame the horror of what was happening before her eyes and couldn't have possibly known how critical her actions were.

We don't know where she got the idea or the strength but we do know that strength of character is built through stories. Strong characters build strong character no matter what is going on in the world. Role models come in all shapes and sizes including in the pages of books.

One of our authors, JamieLeeMann, has written a series of books that have become part of an educational game and whose rights have been sold to make a film.

The Legend of Rhyme series tells a fantasy story of guts, curiosity and temerity in the face of life. If you are looking for a way to get your young adult hooked on books and driven to do the right thing; we highly recommend her series.

You may be an excellent writer but writing copy is a whole different thing.

How do you write your bio? It is bloody awkward writing about yourself without sounding goofy or braggy. But your teammate or colleague knows how awesome you are. Swap jobs, maybe.

Jot down bullet points that you want to have in your bio and let a trusted pal do the bragging. You get the final say and editing/veto power but it really does help to step out of your own head.~ Theresa

This award is given to an exceptional work of memoir writing and offers a cash prize of US$350 plus a further $1,000 towards a France Memoir Writing Retreat (in 2022 or beyond).

A $35 entry fee must accompany the submission. Proceeds of this contest will go to Amy MacRae’s Living Legacy Cure Our Ovarian Cancer Fund, which has raised over $85,000 to fund research into Amy’s rare form of cancer (serous ovarian). The deadline is June 1, 2021, 11:59 PM. Good luck!
