It’s been a while since you heard about Musical Connections so here you go! I was busy last week working on a video for a client for Waterfront Media so hence no episode last week! This week however, you get an all new episode!

My guests this week are two gentlemen who are part of the most consistent traditional folk band of the new millennium, Shanneyganock’s Chris Andrews and Mark Hiscock!

They come on Musical Connections to talk about their 30 Year Anniversary and their latest album, Life In The Harbour! Plus, they talk about the bands formation, favourite places they have played, and a whole lot more! They also plug their upcoming show at the Arts and Culture Centre on March 23 as they are the house band for a tribute show to Ryan’s Fancy and the Sons of Erin in support of the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

New Found Releases will be revealed later today and they will be covering the last two weeks!

To whose who have sent me birthday wishes so far, thank you very much! I greatly appreciate it! It’s pretty frightening to think that next year, I’ll be 30 years old. While I’m excited to be 29, I’m scared to think this is the last year of my twenties and the last ten years just flew by. It’s very overwhelming. However, thanks to social media, I can look back at my 20s very fondly and they have been pretty good to me. All the highs and the lows. Here’s to making the last year of my twenties the best ever!

Newfoundland and Labrador is represented well at the upcoming Juno Awards in Vancouver next month! Inuk Soprano, Deantha Edmunds has two award nominations for Classical Album of the Year (Large Ensemble) with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and Mark Fewer and for Classical Recording of the Year (Solo Artist)

Kellie Loder is up for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for Transitions! Best of luck to all nominees from Newfoundland and Labrador at the Juno Awards!

Devastating news in the local music world today as we just lost the other half of Corey & Trina, Corey Crewe. Well known for their songs like “Northern Lights of Labrador”, “Cover of the Newfoundland Herald”, and “The Wolf Is At The Door”, they were know for making the listeners laugh and cry at the same time.

From my dealings with Corey, he really enjoyed talking about this glory days in the 70s with his late wife which can all be found in his great memoir. He was passionate about his music, always lived life to the fullest and was a true gentleman.

Open the pearly gates, Trina. The wolf is now at the door and now you and Corey are playing together once again. Rest easy, Corey.

January is coming to a close and this week on the Musical Connections podcast, we highlight an initiative for musicians and creators that takes place during the month of February, the RPM Challenge.

I speak with the operator of the RPM Challenge, Elling Lien of Unpossible NL! We talk about the origins of the RPM Challenge in 2006 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to its first Newfoundland and Labrador instalment in 2008!

Plus, he talks about his favourite memories, how you can get involved with the RPM Challenge, and a whole lot more!

He is a steady name in the hardcore and hip-hop music community of Newfoundland and Labrador and I bring him on the show to talk about his work in the music scene. Some of his work includes the band Swimming, his hip-hop pseudonym, Cat Cafe, and his label, Barely There Records. Plus, he talks about how he got into playing music, his influences, Swimming's upcoming album, "Old, and a whole lot more!
