What do you do in your free time?

Most people I know work for the weekends and count down the days until their summer or winter holidays. I’m a seasonal worker—a freelance tour leader in Venice, Italy, where I’ve lived for over 25 years.

In high season, any day can be a workday. I don’t get weekends off or a summer break like a regular employee. It’s work, work, work while I can! 😅

But now, life is different.

It’s January, and life is… well… quiet!

I haven’t had many work requests since the first few weeks of November, so now I finally get the chance to focus on other things I enjoy.

For example, I’m catching up on a nutrition course I’ve been meaning to complete for ages. I love learning about topics I’m passionate about, like nutrition—and who knows, maybe I’ll shed a few extra pounds while I’m at it! 😅

I also get time to declutter (which, honestly, I like the least). But once I get started, I can get very OCD about it and obsess over every detail—thankfully, it doesn’t happen every day!

And the best part?

Every day is family day! I finally get to pick up and drop off my daughter at school almost every day, cook those yummy meals without rushing, and just be more present at home for my teenage boys, too, willing! 😅

This lifestyle is working well for me, and at the moment I'm living it up!

Of course, there are a couple of downsides...

➡️ High season is so hectic that having quality family time becomes difficult. 😞

While I can plan my own schedule, I have to hustle a lot during the busy months. That often means spending too much time away from my family.

➡️ My income comes to a halt during the low season.

I have a plentiful income during high season but much of it has to be put away for the months I'm not working to get us through the winter and pay my taxes! 😅

When I started this career path, I knew I’d need a way to supplement my income during the quiet months. It had to be something flexible, something that wouldn’t steal even more time away from my family or personal life.

That’s when I stumbled upon an online business opportunity.

The idea of managing my own time and relying only on myself really appealed to me. I wanted to be independent—not tied to anyone else’s schedule. Honestly, I never thought I’d learn to run a business!

What I didn’t anticipate when starting this online business was that it would offer me so much more than just flexibility and freedom. It’s become a journey of self-discovery, offering me meaning and purpose I've always craved.

Now, I work passionately alongside like-minded people in a supportive community that thrives on collaboration and encouragement. I’m not on this journey alone—and that’s been so important in building something meaningful for the long term.

This business has given me the chance to create a steady income on my terms while designing a life that balances work, passion, and personal time.

Lovely day for a ride and walk around town!

Kids can ride their bikes in this town until they’re about 13 years old. Adults are not allowed to ride here. Anyhow there are too many bridges it would be a headache pulling them up and down over them!

Also being a historical center there are some areas where even for the little ones it’s forbidden to go to Saint Mark’s Square or in the crowded area of Rialto.

It’s understandable! Who wants to be the parent chasing their kids through the crowds?? 🤷‍♀️🤪☺️

How I'm Finding Balance as a Seasonal Worker

Finding balance as a freelance seasonal worker can be a real challenge. One minute, you’re running around like a chicken with its head cut off, hustling to pack in as many jobs as possible, running yourself ragged, and putting money aside for the quiet times. The next? Crickets…

The money stops flowing, and you’re left relying solely on what you managed to save during the busy season.

As a mom of three, this doesn’t translate into jetting off to a tropical hotspot to escape the winter blues and lounging on a sunbed. Oh no—life keeps rolling, and those necessities keep knocking at the door, regardless of the season.

I’m heading into my third season of seasonal work, and I had a hunch it would be like this before I started. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, and honestly, I’m so excited for what’s ahead. This journey I’m on—it’s not just about business. It’s about creating a life that actually feels good and works for me. 💕

This year, I’ve set a few goals that I’m super passionate about:

🤝 Helping others win: There’s nothing better than watching someone transform their life. I’m here to guide, support, and cheer you on every step of the way.

📚 Challenging myself: Growth happens outside the comfort zone, and I’m ready to keep learning and pushing myself toward new opportunities. ✨

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Making time for what matters: My family is my “why.” Everything I do is so I can be more present for them while building a future we’re all excited about.

This past weekend we got to spend some quality time together and I want more time like this- doing special things!
