Anyone looking for a male fixed cat. Can't keep em my son very allergic. 7 years old doesn't do well with kids or dogs but perfect for a person or couple. It's all about moments, let's keep sending positive vibes! It's also about being human 💜

Today was an emotional one for Lochlan. With Mitch and Luke away there are fewer distractions and more time to sit with the feelings he has ignored. So this morning they came out.

He cried because of what is to come… fearing the pain of a needle in the arm for his bloodwork on Monday, and then a needle in his port for treatment on Tuesday. Also worried about what this next round of Chemo will bring.

He cried because we have to leave again… every 14 days for 3-5 days we have to spend in the Children’s hospital 3 hours away, four times.

He cried because life just isn’t the same. We’re home, and even though home is the same, we aren’t. Cancer has changed us and it doesn’t feel like we fit here anymore. But I reassured him that home and our land here will help us find our way back to ourselves… we won’t be like we were but we will have grown and we’ll be so happy and grateful for this place that helps us heal.

So we bundled up and went for a walk. At first he didn’t want to go… it’s hard work, for most people, climbing our back hill on the best of days, let alone having all of your leg muscles atrophy and attacked by chemo. But I told him that it was his physio for the day, and he pushed on. Finally when we got to the top and went into the forest he felt it… the peace that comes on that place. He found a stump beside the trail, and sat down to catch his breath and rest. He said, “Mom, sometimes I just like to sit and take it all in. I can see the clouds in the blue sky. I can hear the squirrels chattering. I can see the birds flying. I can smell the leaves and the frost. I can feel it all.” Rosie went to him and sat and watched with him for a while and it made me see just how intuitive dogs can be.

Lochlan wanted to play on the ice in the creek and was hesitant to go for it. He asked if it was ok, and of course I said it was. He enjoyed watching the water under the ice, and when the ice broke he had fun playing with the ice plates and making shards and shards of icy crystals on the ground.

As we walked home he held my hand, saying “I don’t need it anymore but I still like to hold it, Mom.”

We will get through this together. Hand in hand.
