After putting so much emphasis of late on traditional witchcraft or ceremonial magick I put aside the fact that in 30 years of studying the occult I focused a decade on mysticism, ascetic faiths, and philosophy. More on metaphysics and intuition, less on rigid ritual.
The spiritist movements were phenomenal, moved the imaginations of Europe during the 1800s, influenced not only the diasporan syncretized spiritual faiths like Umbanda and Palo Mayombe, it also laid the foregrounds for early psychology.
Alan Kardec provided a vocabulary for mediumship. Helena Blavatsky introduced concepts from Eastern philosophy in to Western occultism. And Eduard von Hartmann's "Der Spiritismus" exposes a rigorous theory of magick, his work "Philosophy of the Unconscious" influenced both Freud and Jung.
To the transcendental 🥂💀🕯 may it fill the gaps in your craft and open new horizons. Cheers.
