We're working on a Quadra farmstead map. Here's a quick look at what we have in mind. We may only publish this a couple of times a year starting this month, so if you'd like your stand listed please drop us a line (email preferred not via FB) and provide your details including location. Please keep the description short and snappy like the examples.
The May 31, 2024 edition of the DI is posted online and on its way to PO Boxes across the islands

The Discovery Islander would like to publish a map/directory of farm stands on Quadra Island. Plan is for it to appear in the DI like a pull out that could be kept for future reference. If it is well received we may print a copy annually or perhaps even twice a year as seasonal availability changes.
If you have a farm stand you'd like included please email the DI (news at discoveryislands dot ca) with the name of your stand/ farm, physical address, days stocked, typical products and any other brief additional info.
This week's DI is all complete and posted online. Print copies are making their way to post office boxes tomorrow. Enjoy and Happy May Day Quadra Island!

Alright, Quadra's press has a new, essential companion: DI readers meet the Mitsubishi SDP-Eco 1630 lll. If it works as billed we should see a nice uptick in the print quality of the DI and other local print publications.
Getting the low down on the new (used) plate setter. Hopefully gonna up our look and outlast us
Mid-windstorm mission success! Heading to post offices now
The ferry outage might delay pick up and distribution of the print edition. If not later today then hopefully Saturday morning. Meanwhile please enjoy the online version: www.discoveryislands.ca/news
The March 8 edition of the Discovery Islander is now posted online and the happy news is that this edition will also appear in a printed edition in your mailboxes tomorrow (Friday). We are also tentatively excited to report that we may have found a suitable plate-setter to get us back to printing on Quadra and resuming normal service.
We thank all our ongoing and new advertisers for their support and appreciate everyone who has contributed the voluntary annual subscription. If you haven't already we encourage you to support your local news-magazine with this modest but extremely helpful contribution. Just $30 a year to keep our local press running...

For our readers, advertisers and contributors who may be wondering what is happening at the DI.
As described we have experienced an equipment failure that has proven very difficult to fix. Maintaining an offset press in a small community is not easy but oddly it is a more contemporary part of the process that has let us down.
So what next? In the short term the Discovery Islander will publish online. We will have a deadline for submissions this coming Monday, January 22 to be treated as normal but there will not be a print edition, the issue will be published online likely on Wednesday the 24th. Naturally advertising rates will be adjusted.
In the longer term, there are not a lot of options to return to print but once I've had enough time to assess the state of play, poll our advertisers and contributors it will be easier to make a decision.
In the meantime please ignore any rumours that the DI is disappearing, we are simply adapting. If anyone in the community has a hankering for offset printing get in touch...
Thank you everyone for the many years of support and recent concern. Publishing the Discovery Islander has been a privilege and I'll do what I can to maintain it.
Philip
Happy New Year to our loyal readers! Unfortunately the turning of the calendar has brought some technical issues and we won't be publishing an edition this week. Stay tuned next week when we hope to resume normal programming...
