RSF Leader Apologizes to South Sudanese for Killings in Wad Madani
January 31, 2025 – The leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), General Muhammad Hamdan Daglo, has publicly apologized to the people of South Sudan following the recent killing of South Sudanese nationals in Wad Madani, Sudan.
In a heartfelt statement, Gen. Daglo extended his condolences on behalf of what he described as “the real Sudanese people”—those who, he emphasized, share deep cultural and historical ties with South Sudanese.
“To our dear Southern brothers, we truly apologize to you,” he said. “We apologize on behalf of the Sudanese people—the ones who resemble you and you resemble them, the ones who feel your pain and you feel theirs. We apologize on their behalf.”
The apology comes amid heightened tensions following reports of violence against South Sudanese refugees and migrants in war-torn Sudan. Wad Madani, a city that had become a key refuge for displaced civilians, recently fell under RSF control after intense fighting with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
Gen. Daglo’s statement appears to be an attempt to mend relations with South Sudan, which has been closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation in Sudan and the impact on its citizens. South Sudanese authorities have yet to officially respond to the apology.
The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 between the RSF and SAF, has led to widespread displacement, with thousands of South Sudanese caught in the crossfire. Many have faced violence, discrimination, and difficulties fleeing to safety.
While Gen. Daglo’s apology acknowledges the suffering of South Sudanese in Sudan, it remains to be seen whether concrete actions will follow to ensure their protection.

Update: Ongoing Killings of South Sudanese in North Sudan 🇸🇩The tragic killing of South Sudanese in areas controlled by North Sudan continues to be a grave concern. Reports indicate that South Sudanese citizens are still being targeted in these regions, leaving families devastated and communities in fear.Additionally, many have raised concerns about the strict communication restrictions in place, which make it increasingly difficult to access reliable information or seek help. These restrictions hinder the flow of updates and prevent affected individuals from reaching out for support. It is imperative that international organizations and concerned parties intensify their efforts to address these violations and work toward ensuring the safety and rights of South Sudanese living in North Sudan. We must continue to amplify these voices and advocate for justice and peace.
