This episode is shorter and a means to come full circle on the passing of a friend that propelled me into making this podcast.

Letter 1: The first week after your passing
Letter 2: 5 months later
Letter 3: To your mom

This episode is meant to build bridges of communication. I am truly trying to connect with people who have been going through mental health issues. Partly because I am going through issues of my own, and partly to have a larger conversation about it.

I am excited to release Episode 12 Gardens Are Not Made By Sitting In The Shade.

In this episode I speak with MP Demers, owner of The Garden Gal located in Ottawa. MP is a remarkable person who has created a business out of necessity, to balance her burnout from her day job. We discuss what that means for her now, how The Garden Gal got started, and what it means to “get into nature” as a mental health solution.

Chatting with MP for this podcast reminded me so much of my passion for gardening. She works by "Nature's Time", which according to the Yale School of Environment is "an antidote for stress: It can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. Attention Deficit Disorder and aggression lessen in natural environments, which also help speed the rate of healing. In a recent study, psychiatric unit researchers found that being in nature reduced feelings of isolation, promoted calm, and lifted mood among patients."

I really enjoyed MP's perspectives and self-reflection. Adaptation, collaboration, mental health care, and translation of skills were the most important part of this episode. MP made the choice to side-step from her day job and put herself into something new that eased her mind.

She said, “Gardening saved my from my breakdown,” and “In the hardest of times I found myself in a garden.” Nature really is a mental health benefit and we need to pull ourselves out of our negative mental states. The hardest part is getting out of the house.

Episode 11 Natural Health & Wellness Solutions for a Pandemic world, I speak with Heather Garrod, certified aroma-therapist and owner of Planet Botanix which has been running in Ottawa at Bank/Somerset for 16 years. We will be discussing what running a business has been like for her during the pandemic and how her mental health played a part in it.

The truly hardest part of the pandemic was how easily derailed a business can be. While discussing the main topics, Heather described what is has been like being a staple of a community and how it comes with its challenges. Heather's natural health and wellness solutions are highly recommended so it was great to dive into what those challenges were and which solutions she used.

Planet Botanix was set back due to lockdowns, however Heather persisted with her belief in the importance of being part of Centretown. I find it especially endearing when she pointed to her feeling of responsibility, an imperative really, to bring "good" when being part of her community.

I want to thank Heather for participating and always being a positive part of Centretown.

Episode 10 Hair Is Therapy is a step down therapy lane as I talk to Ben Lapierre, owner of Hair by Ben Lapierre. We talk about what it means to have a business during a pandemic in Amsterdam, Netherlands. There are so many differences to the way lockdowns occurred and it was really interesting to hear how Ben's perspective on mental health is based on active listening.

It was a great experience to open the conversation wider and include Ben's perspective in Josh Is Talking's journey through mental health and awareness. The stigma associated with mental health is lessening, so having conversations like this really helps in bringing that stigma down.

I want to give a big thank you to Ben for participating and being a help to those that just want to open up.

Episode 9 When Life Gives You Lemons with John Fritz, founder of Fritz and Fancy is now available! When life sends you lemons, John makes lemons, and pineapple, and rainbow, and star….scrunchies 💃 The fabulous approach to creating a business when life can be difficult is the essence behind this brand.

It was so fun to do this episode and I learned a lot. I find it so cool that John took his free time and turned it into a business, with help of his background in management, he started to make connections as an entrepreneur. I really like John’s vulnerability in talking about losing joy, and how he took the reins back in his life and brought that joy back. There really is no shame in reaching out to our friends and family, and if need be, to medical professionals.

I also really like the reference to the old version of ourselves and how they stay with us. We want to cherish that little John, or Josh, or Alex and remember that they were strong enough back then and that we are strong enough now. Please remember that vulnerability is strength and when you truly know who you are, you can really show up for others.

Episode 8 Strategic Thinking During a Global Pandemic with Lindsay Johnson really conveys the message Josh Is Talking is trying to convey. Lindsay is the owner and founder of The Radical Connector located in Vancouver, British Columbia, and runs a global online business community with entrepreneurs around the world. The Radical Connector "helps new entrepreneurs build a profitable business doing what they love. They teach new entrepreneurs the easy way to get customers and make money is by ditching busy work and focusing only on the ONLY activities that matter – which are the ones that let you work less, get out from behind your screen, and back to living the grand adventure of your life."

Entrepreneurship is a matter of finding our PPCs according to Lindsay - the "Perfect Potential Customer". Especially today, as we continue to venture through a global pandemic, we discuss the survival of the adaptable and pivoting while understanding the major difference between #1 and online business, and #2 building online.

Lindsay and I talk about networking and how it actually went down during the pandemic. However, this could be a natural business shift as The Radical Connector has grown into a successful business, however networking events are still a favorite, "just because you might not need to still do it, you might miss out on meeting really cool people!"

We chat about mental health and learning to never accept abuse. The variation of mental health services exist, however at a great cost. Sadly, affordability is a test of Canadian health care and we all should have easy access to it.

I am so excited to release Episode 7 The Ins and Outs of Reinventing Yourself. I chatted with Dana Humphrey who is the talent behind Dana Humphrey Life Coaching who spoke to me about her journey into breaking down personal boundaries, running her successful businesses, and dancing with friends as a proud q***r woman at places like House of YES in Brooklyn, NY. I found it absolutely fascinating to hear her approach to creating her own path as she cut off all her hair as a big "No!" to gender norms and stereotypes. This episode is a great example of how we can all reinvent ourselves. I hope you all enjoy!

Episode 6 - The LGBTQ+ Vantage Point Through A Global Pandemic with Stephanie Lora Bearce who runs Upleveling Unapologetically with Stephanie Lora Bearce

This episode is an introduction into how small business, Covid-19, and mental health intertwine into the life of an LGBTQ+ business owner.

“Give yourself a moment to grieve the life you used to have," is the most powerful statement I have heard throughout the entire pandemic. I had not thought of it that way and it is truly inspiring to hear this.

Stephanie has been full-time in business as an Empowerment Coach & Speaker and Intuitive Energy Healer for 3 years now. Before that she was a licensed counselor working as a High School Counselor for almost 8 years. She has a big history in mental health training, as well as her own journey with parts of it as well!

Stephanie is part of the LGBTQ+ community (Pan) and was fully comfortable talking about anything in that realm, as well as mental health, business, Covid, etc!
