Ladies and gentlemen, I have to announce that my long-time grudge and silent feud with Dahl from Voices From The Bench is officially over! Primarily I was upset at the fact that he’s a much better meme maker and far more consistent content creator than me, but all that is water under the bridge now that Elvis so graciously invited me on the podcast at the very last minute when his scheduled speaker canceled and I was the only one available and willing to take that slot on such short notice 😅

A lesson in why shade tabs are not the greatest form of shade communication:

Ran around the lab and gathered up all of the shade tabs and compared them side by side. These shade tabs are all hand layered so there will be a significant difference from one to another. No need to even bring it into Lightroom to compare with the digital color meter, the differences are pretty apparent

This is why using a photographic protocol with a grey reference card like the card shown in the picture is absolutely crucial for high aesthetic shade communication.

Using a known control that’s consistent will yield more predictable results
