The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract (2023-24 to 2024-25) with forward Brandon Gignac.

A native of Repentigny, QC, Gignac played 43 games with the Laval Rocket this season, registering 42 points (14G, 28A). The 26-year-old forward, who leads the Rocket in goals, assists, and points, also served 36 penalty minutes so far in 2023-24. Gignac was tied for fifth in AHL scoring when he signed his contract.

The Laval Rocket with a massive 6-2 victory versus the Rochester Americans last night, as they fight for that playoff spot within the North Division.

Brandon Gignac & Justin Barron put up 3 points each. The Rocket will look to make it back to back Ws versus the Americans, this afternoon at Place Bell.

During the 2nd intermission between the Habs & the Pens, HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the New York Rangers might be targeting Habs centerman Sean Monahan.

It’s been indicated that Habs GM Kent Hughes is asking for either a 1st RD Pick or a 2nd + prospect in return for Monahan.

Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher has been given a 5 game suspension by the NHL Players’ Safety, after an illegal check to the head of Islanders’ player ADAM Pelech.

Gallagher was given a 5 minute major & match penalty for the hit. This is Brendan Gallagher’s first suspension in the NHL.

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension (2024-25 to 2026-27) with goaltender Samuel Montembeault. The deal will pay him an average salary of $3.15 million per season.

Montembeault, 27, has played 10 games with the Canadiens this season, posting a 5-3-1 record to go along with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. The Becancour, QC native is currently playing in his third season with the Canadiens and fifth of his NHL career.

We have a call-up!

The Canadiens recalled defenseman Mattias Norlinder from the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Tuesday.

The move comes as the team announced earlier in the day that defenseman Jordan Harris will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. He has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Norlinder has registered a goal and an assist in 14 games with the team’s AHL affiliate this season. In 87 games with the Rocket, the blue-liner has totaled 23 points (four goals, 19 assists).

The Canadiens announced on Monday that forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard has been placed on the injured reserve and defenseman Jayden Struble has been recalled from the Laval Rocket.

Struble has collected six points (1G, 5A) in 12 games with the Rocket this year. Monday’s news marks the first time the 22-year-old blue liner has been recalled by the Canadiens since signing with the team out of Northeastern University on March 15, 2023.

Montreal Canadiens’ prospects Joshua Roy & Sean Farrell are top 5 in scoring amongst rookies in the AHL.

Sean Farrell sits at number 5 with 11 points in 13 games, while Roy sits at the very top with 17 points in 13 games.

Both have demonstrating excellent chemistry since being paired up on the same line.
